Extinction is a good blueprint for a more interesting game. I came in excited to slice up some giants, but after the fifth rote exercise I was kind of over it. There are some flashes of brilliance every now and then but the over-reliance on the core energy meter idea keeps it imprisoned in the depths of repetitive arcade territory.

A good idea (albeit not very original) that doesn't feel as good because of imprecise controls, a camera that constantly gets in the way and a gameplay system that becomes repetitive too son. If this doesn't bother you too much and if you've been looking for an action game that puts you against giant orcs, then Extinction will not disappoint you.

Extinction had the potential to be something special, but a few too many flaws and frustrations hold it back from true greatness. Despite that, we still think this adventure of epic proportions is very much worth a purchase if the grand scale even slightly grabs your interest.

They might be giants, but they're definitely boring.

Once you get used to the gameplay loop after the first few missions, different types of Jackals and Titans that sport progressively tougher armor begin to be introduced, but it turns into a bit of a chore after a while. Extinction is just too simple of a game to justify its price tag and didn't hold my interest for the entirety of the campaign or its side activities—which include time trials, your everyday horde mode, and basic multiplayer functionality. It just seems like a project that is too big, yet too small, for the developers at Iron Galaxy, and the times when it does all click together are few and far in between.

Extinction shows a lot of promise, and it sometimes delivers, like when it comes to the engaging, acrobatic combat or the sheer scale of the Ravenii. Unfortunately, the repetitive mission types and gameplay and a clichéd fantasy tale make it feel like a shell of a game. Far from feeling like a full retail release, Extinction feels like one good idea run into the ground until you're checking your watch, waiting for it to end.

I enjoyed the combat and thought the concept of Extinction was really decent, it just wasn't implemented correctly. Worth a play, but only if the price was a bit lower. If you're looking for a game that lets you take down massive enemy creatures, stick with the original. Or pick this up for a fun rental night or wait for a price drop.

Extinction takes inspiration from some incredible games in the genre, such as God of War and Devil May Cry -- but sadly, it fails to improve upon any of them.

Extinction has its ups and downs. There's a lot to its different modes and its long story campaign, but its foundation is lacking and it eventually gets boring after a while. The 60$ price tag is also way too much for the current market! More than anything, Extinction reminds me of smartphone games: full of content but lacking in other aspects. Maybe it would've been better for it to be released on smartphones but right now, compared to games like Attack on Titan 2 and Shadow of the Colossus, it hasn't got much to say.

While not an awful game, this is definitely not something I'm going to be overtly suggesting to my friends. IThe game is made up of a simple kind of fun and not any sort of deep and meaningful systems or mechanics. Topped off with a generic and negligible story, Extinction only manages to keep its head above water due to how fun chopping up ogres can be.

Extinction is a beautiful game with many good ideas but "Repeat" is heavily damages the game from begining hours of it. Story and characters are shallow and immediately forgotten by the gamer after begining of the game. Epic fights with giant raveniis are the best parts of Extinction and challenge the gamer very well. Extinction is a game that is worth your time but it also has weaknesses that repeat is the biggest of them.

Extinction is full of wasted potential, and while some ideas and gameplay mechanics might be interesting at first, almost none of them are executed properly. Good visuals and some platforming fun are all that Extinction can offer.

While not a fundamentally flawed game, Extinction does not provide the player with enough of a mechanism to reasonably progress through the game in an enjoyable manner.

Extinction offers up some awesome gameplay moments, but it also doesn't feature much variety in its campaign and other game modes, so the experience gets repetitive and stale faster than you'd like.

Killing giant monsters in games is always fun, and Extinction has created a solid foundation for a great game. It’s just that what’s here isn’t much to justify its high price tag considering how much of an afterthought the campaign is and how all the other game-modes are practically identical.

Extinction ultimately falls short for the hype that it attracted.

Extinction has a lot of potential to be more than it is. While the title is worth playing, it could strive for better. The lack of guidance in the beginning and the learning curve can be tough for new players to acclimatise to. However, after a few hours of learning, some of the frustration drops away, and the game becomes more fun because the player starts honing their skills. Trying to take down the Ravenii as quickly as possible to save the city before rushing to the next giant can be stressful, but it is an enjoyable kind of stress. Similarly, facing off against two or more Ravenii can be a fun challenge, forcing different strategies, such as attacking the more weakly armored first or severing a leg so the player can focus their attention on the other ogre. The problems that hold Extinction back may be a make-it-or-break-it point for some players. The inconsistency in using the whip can bring exasperation, and the lack of varied game modes can become boring. Furthermore, the predominantly single-button combat system is lackluster because far greater complexity can easily be envisioned for a game of this type. Having more ways to perform sweeping attacks for crowd control or stronger direct attacks might make the physical act of play more enjoyable. With more varied game modes, a more in-depth combat system, and redesigned traversal mechanics, Extinction could stand out, but, in its current state, it simply exists.

Impressive ogre battles and challenging, hectic missions, but I just wish there was a bit more to Extinction.
