All of these elements together make this game easily the best in the series thus far and is something I can happily recommend for anyone that enjoys large explosions and destroying giant aliens en masse.

I'll admit that I went into Earth Defense Force 5 a little concerned about series fatigue.

For all its nonsense, giant monsters, and ever-escalating explosions, there's also a sense that this EDF, moreso than its predecessors, has also remembered that something can be B-grade, and still convey some kind of message of worth.

Earth Defense Force 5 is one of the best action games released on PC this year, and a must-have for fans of the franchise looking for a new fix after finishing EDF 4.1.

Earth Defence Force 5 [EDF 5] is a satisfying genocide simulator where you eradicate the world of Giant bugs and Frogmen. Even though the game has taken a step back from its EDF 4.1 60fps gameplay, as it drops back to 30fps, there are more creatures on screen than ever before and the physics push the game to its very limits. This is evident by the screen tearing, slowdown and frame drops, but it’s not a common sight on the PS4 Pro, especially when comparing it to EDF 4.1 on the base PS4. With the choice between four classes, a multitude of weapons and support items, vehicles, and even up to four player co-op, EDF 5 is a bloody amazing game.

Earth Defense Force 5 is as video gamey as they come. No frills, just kills. If you want to unwind after a long day and just blast some baddies and see explosions until your eyes go red, you can get no better than this game.

Earth Defense Force 5 is absolutely, thoroughly, another Earth Defense Force. If you know what that is, you know what you're in for. It's the first one built for modern hardware, which means more stuff happening on screen, but it's not an upheaval of the formula, nor is it a magical facelift.

Earth Defense Force 5 is the best episode of the franchise. The game is always very fun, with a lot of monsters and spaceships to destroy, alone or with friends. There is a lot of content, and despite graphics that feels old, and a lot of repetitivity, it's still a very good an satisfying game !

Earth Defense Force 5 doesn't do much to get away from the series standards of campy story telling and underwhelming graphics, but does improve upon the series' unique appeal by reducing grind, increasing enemy variety and giving soldiers some new tricks to get around the battlefield. There's nothing quite like EDF and this is the definitive entry in the series.

Earth Defense Force 5 stands in the face of pretty much every game released these days. It’s the game that doesn’t bother trying to keep up with the Jones’ because it’s happy doing its own thing and being just what it wants to be.

Earth Defense Force 5 impresses by its scale with hundreds of enemies in each stage, several weapons to test and the courage to make the player learn their particularities to eventually cause destruction according to their wishes. This is certainly one of the most special titles of the year.

Like its predecessor, Earth Defense Force 5 is a fine jumping-off point for newcomers to the series. The shooting remains as solid as ever, and the concept of mixing in loot drops with blasting large enemy hordes remains enjoyable, even if the whole package isn't as polished as expected from something with a cult following. However, EDF5 doesn't surpass the heights of EDF4.1 due to its flaws detracting from the progress of its improvements.
