A blatantly unfinished and uninspired nostalgia project that sheds a certain, peculiar light on the immersive sim at large.
Riddled with bugs and bizarre mechanics, Underworld Ascendant is a bafflingly poor debut from OtherSide Entertainment.
Underworld Ascendant is a buggy, repetitive, and boring mess of an RPG.
Underworld Ascendant misses the mark with almost every shot. Even when freed from the expectations its historical baggage brings, it is a clear failure.
A sadly failed tribute to one of the greatest RPGs of all time, Underworld Ascendant is simply far too flawed to recommend to either fans of the original Ultima Underworld, or in-depth RPGs in general.
There's a game behind the many issues and flaws of Underworld Ascendant; we just don't know when (or if) we might see it one day.

Underworld Ascendant touches on something but never really grasps it. It doesn't utilise any of the improvements from its long absence from the industry and even falls flat compared to the game it is meant to be the successor of.
We hoped to get a spiritual successor to Ultima Underworld, but it turned out to be terrible mix of Dark Messiah and Thief, full of problems and bugs. This game is a complete mess, and it didn't deserve your attention at all.

Even if you can get past the countless technical issues, Underworld Ascendant is a poorly designed abomination that ruins the Underworld series even to those who've never heard of it. This is the final nail in the Immersive Sim™ coffin. Bury it and salt the earth.
Bad ideas and bad errors, with glitches and bugs. The feeling is of a game not completed, with no polishing at all.
