You'd have to be a cold human indeed not to be warmed at least a little by a knitted Yoshi out to save his unravelled pals

I enjoyed Wooly World's fuzzy embrace and flashes of invention, though left it feeling somewhat ungratified. However, I also managed to get a different viewpoint. This was the first game my wife played to completion in several years. And even my two year old son managed to flutter his way through the first few levels using the easier 'mellow' mode, which gives Yoshi wings. Seeing the grin on his face as Yoshi gobbled up pieces of scenery and delirious giggle at the ground pound reminded me of the balance Nintendo face.

The handicraft look has been explored in many recent games, but Nintendo's latest platformer exploits it in cute, interesting and compellin ways

There is the odd flourish of creativity, but it is hard not to feel like it's all been done before, and better. There's still plenty to enjoy, but it doesn't quite carve out its own identity. In short: it's finely crafted, if a bit woolly.

Yoshi's Woolly World is a very good platformer. It'll take you 15-20 hours to do everything, and it's enough fun that it'll probably get you wanting to play it again in a few years. It has solid Nintendo production values, retro platforming, and is appropriate for many ages and tastes. Despite some repetitive levels, and easy bosses, Yoshi's Woolly World is highly recommended.

Yoshi's Woolly World is Nintendo doing what Nintendo does best; create a colorful world full of precision that spans generations. I loved it, my son adores it, and gamers everywhere will not be able to play it without smiling. Nothing about it changes the genre for better or worse, but that doesn't change the fact that Nintendo still makes some of the best games out there. If you own a Wii U, it is definitely worth checking out, if for nothing more than the smile it will put on your face, the entire time you play it.

Yoshi's Woolly World is a polished platformer that's geared toward players of all ages, making it a good option for solo play or clean family fun. Admittedly, the easier difficulty might be a turnoff for more hardcore platforming fans. Still, its unique art style and whimsical gameplay make it a fun ride for folks who like a charming platformer.

Yoshi's Woolly World makes a fine addition to any Wii U owner's library. It's full of charm and personality, and it doesn't forget to test you with its high difficulty. You'll spend more than a dozen hours doing everything and collecting every hidden item, and you'll have a blast practically the entire time.

When Yoshi's Woolly World gets it right, it smashes it out of the park. Creative levels that tried different things such as transforming Yoshi into a plane, mermaid, or a racecar, is when that Nintendo sparkle shined its brightest.

Yoshi's Woolly World is Nintendo doing what it does best, then proving that it still does that thing better than just about anyone else. It's a smart, imaginative and beautifully constructed platform game that scales up for the hardcore and down for the most casual gamer, while packing in so many ideas and so much heart that anyone should have a brilliant time. More than just a pretty platformer, it's right up there with the finest on Wii U.

Overall, Yoshi's Woolly World is a "Nintendo" game at its finest. The game not only draws in gamers with a captivating art-style and excellent soundtrack, but it also keeps them engaged with spectacular and diverse gameplay elements. Fortunately, Yoshi's Woolly World packs in a wealth of options too, which accommodate new players as well as Nintendo veterans alike. While it may seem that Nintendo has a relatively sparse Wii U lineup for this fall, Yoshi's Woolly World is a pristine example that sometimes quality should be valued over quantity.

Yoshi's Woolly World doesn't do much that we haven't seen before in Nintendo's long history of these sorts of games, and its exceptional cuteness factor helps overcome some of its slightly derivative design. But in a season so focused on doing vicious harm in virtual worlds, its lovely to take a whimsical stroll with this delightful dinosaur daredevil.

Other than this potential flaw, I can't think of any shortcomings (though it should be repeated that this is my first Yoshi game, so any repetitiveness from previous installations isn't accounted for). Yoshi's Wooly World is a challenging yet accessible platformer that weaves a venerable Nintendo icon into a fresh aesthetic.
