Team Sonic Racing Reviews
Solid fun racer with great team focus, but also weaknesses in track design and driving experience.

Team Sonic Racing is fun yet ultimately underwhelming kart racer. It's innovative team-based mechanics can make the solo campaign a joy, but aren't fleshed out enough to prevent things becoming repetitive.
Team Sonic Racing gives players a whole new take on the "Kart Racer" genre thanks to its team gameplay mechanic. It works and it allows less skilled players to enjoy competing against other human players. It's just too bad that SUMO got rid of the transformations and the SEGA All-Stars...

Team Sonic Racing uses an interesting team mechanic to shake up what is otherwise a pretty average arcade racing title. If you're really into the genre or have two dedicated friends to play with it might be a fun experience but you aren't going to get anything here you don't already have from somewhere else.
Whilst it may not challenge Mario Kart as the king of arcade kart racing, Team Sonic Racing's twist on the genre makes it distinctive enough to discourage comparisons to Nintendo's classic.
It might not be as good as Sonic & All-Stars Racing: Transformed, but Team Sonic Racing is a joyous and remarkably fun kart racer with a smart team-based twist. Gotta go fast, and that.
Team Sonic Racing is ultimately a double edge sword. The concept is cool and the mechanics are there, it just won’t appeal to everyone. It’s hard to win a race and still lose, just like it’s a lot of fun to not have a last second mistake take away an obvious victory. If anything, it just changes where the source of frustration is. I wouldn’t say this is enough to ruin the experience, just that it’s less of a fix and more of a different experience.
With a team based approach to racing Team Sonic Racing is a very unique addition to the Sonic franchise, solidly executed across the board. It especially excels in larger multiplayer groups.
Overall, Team Sonic Racing is… fun. I wouldn’t say it’s a top-of-the-line title by any means, but little tweaks to the formula give it an edge over others in the same field.
While Team Sonic Racing makes a statement with its collaborative squads of racers, its identity is lost in the amorphous complexion of a conventional kart racer. Worse, its gorgeous locales and myriad customization options aren't quite enough to support a despairing imbalance between luck and skill. Silver the Hedgehog's presence is one of many indications Team Sonic Racing is burdened with deadweight and light on inspiration.
While I still have some concerns with Team Sonic Racing, I can't deny that I've come around to it. I've sunk over 15 hours, across several extended play sessions, and had quite a bit of fun doing so. The $39.99 launch price is more than fair for what's included here. If you're looking for an enjoyable alternative after playing Mario Kart 8 for the past five years, Team Sonic Racing smoothly drifts its way to a decisive silver trophy. Start your engines!
How much you get out of Team Sonic Racing really depends on what you're willing to put up with to get to the finish line. It can't hold its own against Mario Kart 8 in some areas, but more than makes up for it in others, like with the inventive team tactics and the most excellent soundtrack. It has plenty to offer with multiplayer as well, provided you don't mind how it performs locally in spots. The game could've obviously been so much more, but it stays on the road long enough to score the win. For Sonic fans, that's worth taking a victory lap over.
The soundtrack and the excellent design of teamwork contribute tons of fun to this game. But the sudden framerate drop on PS4 is annoying, and the existence of golden parts is nonsense.

As a single-player experience, Team Sonic Racing is a competent, if entirely derivative, kart racer with a great cast of characters and vibrant, inventive tracks. But in multiplayer modes, it excels and stands out in its crowded field with new and exciting innovations and cooperative features that challenge the tried-and-true formula.
Team Sonic Racing is, above all else, a fun kart racing game that stumbles a little with difficulty spikes in single player and slow down in split screen multiplayer, Those looking for a challenging but welcoming racing game to play with friends and family are likely to get exactly what they're looking for.
The risk pays off as Sumo take their cult hit racing series in a new direction that looks great, sounds great and plays like a dream
With some patches and some polishing, Team Sonic Racing could be satisfactory. It has some interesting ideas. Getting to race with other people and help one another, in the name of everyone in your group doing better, has some merit.
Sonic Team Racing is possibly the most consistently fun kart racer since Mario 64.
Team Sonic Racing refines and advances the genre in creative ways that make it a must play for both kart racing and Sonic fans alike, which is easy to do thanks to its budget price.
Team Sonic Racing is a good racing game, with the brilliant idea of the "team gameplay" and few little flaws.
