It's 2001 all over again. Some thirteen years after Melee's release, Nintendo has finally formulated an experience which compares appreciably to the masterpiece that we all love (and many of us still play). Whether for fun or for glory, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U is the follow-up Smash fans have been anticipating since.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U offers the most modes, fighters, and stages in the history of the franchise, with a surprisingly high level of polish across the board. Whether you prefer multiplayer or toughing it out against CPU fighters, you'll find hours of excellent fun throwing down with your favorite Nintendo characters.

Smash is fun. That's one of the most boring words to use in a video game review, I know, but I can't sum it up any other way. Nintendo's developers made it an obvious objective and they've unequivocally hit the motherload. You'll feel like you did too, so make sure you're tossing opponents off-stage to explore it all.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U delivers all of the rock-solid mechanics that the 3DS version gave us, with the joy of playing on a big screen with friends and a heap of worthwhile modes. It certainly doesn't negate the greatness of the 3DS edition, but for those who have a bunch of friends anxious to Smash and can only get one, this is the version to get.

As I mentioned earlier, I am not a fighting game expert, but I know what I like. I also know the enjoyment I had playing this with friends and the enjoyment I saw when my kids played. In the end Super Smash Bros. is a great game. It is a game meant to be played by every one who has ever wanted to fight Mario versus Peach, and then some. But it is also more about the players who love just smashing the buttons to make their character do cool things, and that's alright too. If you want a fighting game that is easy to get into and even easier to enjoy Super Smash Bros. for Wii U is the only fighting game you need to have.

When I'm playing Smash Bros. with my friends, nothing can be better. We scream, we argue, we laugh, and we never want to stop. The Wii U version is a fantastic addition to the series. The new modes are great, but the excellent mechanics and huge, varied roster make it potentially the best entry in the franchise yet.

The stages might be hit or miss, but Nintendo proves once again that pitting its various mascots and characters against each other is still the best way to spend your way around a crowded TV.

‎Nintendo had quite a bit to live up to. Since the announcement of this game, director Masahiro Sakurai has been throwing coals on the fire of the Hype Train with his ‎‎daily screenshots,‎‎teasers and cryptic comments in Nintendo Directs. The poor man has almost worked his way into the grave with the latest smash, but he succeeded; Super Smash Bros For Wii U is more than worth it. Super Smash Bros for Wii U is without a doubt the best game for the Wii U this year.‎

There was little doubt Nintendo would deliver its absolute best with Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, but somehow the Japanese company has managed to blow past the expectations for a title of this magnitude.

In a holiday season rife with games that are riddled by bugs and glitches of all sorts, it's beyond refreshing to know that I can sit down and repeatedly wail on Mario or pummel Samus into submission to my heart's content in lag-free glory. Smashing truly never felt so good.

Overall, though, Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U is an excellent addition to the series. It's solid when played by your lonesome but really shines when played against other people whether it be online or on your couch. Personally, I recommend gathering up as many people as you can and squeezing them in your living room for the best Smash experience. Just be warned that they might not want to leave so get ready to kick them out.
