Ori and the Will of the Wisps in an emotional journey through a beautifully crafted world. Gareth Coker's soundtrack is sensational and the combat and exploration are as fun as they are satisfying. Moon Studios' new game is a must have for every Metroidvania fan, and an easy recommendation to everyone who has access to Xbox Games Pass.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps is as fun to play as it is beautiful to look at. I rarely have no critiques of a game, but this one is as good as I could imagine, aside from the aforementioned story beats that could have been a little more affecting. Moon Studios has proven themselves to be a talent worth watching for whatever they may do next.

With "Ori and the Will of the Wisps", Moon Studios has created a fantastic 2D platformer, which takes up the strengths of its predecessor and appears even rounder and more perfect in itself. Thanks to an optimized control system, the racing and climbing passages run even rounder, so that over time a true flow is created when playing. Visually, "Ori and the Will of the Wisps" proves to be a true force and shines with even finer details and an almost fairy-tale like game world. The soundtrack also stands for itself at this point and sets new standards even in this genre. In terms of difficulty level, "Ori and the Will of the Wisps" with its three different levels offers both beginners and veterans the right challenge. Of course, it is the touching story that makes "Ori and the Will of the Wisps" so unique and lets the player dive deep into the game. In our test, "Ori and the Will of the Wisps" proves to be a true pearl among 2D adventures and promises unforgettable game moments.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps (OWW) will test your gaming skills on EXPLORATION, COMBAT and a bit of LOGIC. Run, jump and combo abilities in the air to reach new areas or to win fights and as game progress, you will find out that there is much more. There are dozens of things to do, quests, side quests, puzzles, time trials, base improvements, skills character customization, upgrades, collectibles... and all that is put together by a STORY WORTHY OF A FAIRY TALE. Unlike most games, death at OWW is not a punishment, the respawn usually happens really close putting you right back into the game. The game comes with 3 levels of difficulty: easy, normal and hard. The normal level is challenging and the hard level will make you suffer.

Allow me to be candid for a moment. I work in healthcare and have small children at home. With the fear in the world of CoViD-19 and the surrounding hysteria and panic, these last few weeks have been nothing short of stressful. I’ve had travel plans cancelled, work schedules have been all over the place, and we’ve had some difficulty getting supplies for our home, including fresh food. My family is still in a good place, but the thoughts and worries have been constant clouds in my mind. Ori and the Will of the Wisps has been a welcome escape from these concerns. For a few short bursts of time, I was able to escape the crowded grocery lines and travel through Niwen, full of friendly faces and frightening foes alike, all placed in one of the most beautiful video game worlds to date. The credits rolled for me at just over 10 hours of play, but I expect to get a few more hours reaching towards the 100% marker in the first playthrough alone. Ori and the Will of the Wisps is available on PC and Xbox One via Xbox Game Pass, which runs at such a cheap price that this game should be a no-brainer for most people to play. For me, this is the first high profile release of 2020, and is a near-perfect Chapter One to what looks to be a very promising year.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps serves up a balanced meal of combat and platforming that captured me immediately. I'm not a big fan of the first game, but Ori's weapon wheel and slick maneuverability turns Will of the Wisps into an irresistible ballet. Unfortunately, performance problems on the Xbox One S in particular bring down a game that is otherwise almost perfect.

After spending more than 14 hours in the 2nd Ori I explored every nook and cranny of Niwen. I'm willing to say that Ori and the Will of the Wisps managed to balance new additions with proven concepts from the first game. That makes it a great sequel which you shouldn't miss. Now excuse me, I'm going to return back to Niwen once again.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps maintains the same compelling ethos as its prequel. Major changes to the series most tedious and most unique are for better and for worst.

Ori and the Blind Forest was a rare gem. Combining an emotionally charged story, with beautiful visuals, and challenging gameplay. Tethering everything together was the passionate soundtrack that invoked feelings of both sadness and love. Ori and the Will of the Wisps take every concept of the original game and builds on it. Providing the same exceptional atmosphere and Metroidvania gameplay. But with improved combat mechanics, more engaging optional missions, and a deeply passionate story and soundtrack that rivals Ori and the Blind Forest. Ori and the Will of the Wisps is an outstanding sequel that both challenges and dazzles the player with its enchanting musical score and remarkable visuals. It's a shame that the most major thing holding it back is the technical problems.

There are glitches, technical holdups, and frame rate drops, so it’s by no means perfect, but Ori and the Will of the Whisps is an incredible swansong for this generation of Xbox and reminds you of the type of first-party quality Microsoft has for the generation ahead.
