Darksiders Genesis gets a lot right. It has plenty of personality and a dynamic, engaging action system. Its only real problem is that it has tackled a thematic challenge that it can't deliver - hell should not be dull, empty or repetitive, and yet this game fails on all fronts there.

Hack and Slash with Horsemen of the Apocalypse is acceptable, but with some flaws and horrible camera.

With a little bit of refinement, and by committing wholly to the notion of adopting a new identity, Darksiders could definitely make itself a staple of the genre.

It doesn't continue the story, but Darksiders Genesis is a strong prequel buoyed by fantastic co-op and a fun new character in Strife. Fans of the series, and dungeon crawlers in general, should check this one out.

Thanks to its well executed balance between a hack and slash and an RPG, as well as its system of skills, the relationship between the two main characters and its very compelling combat, there's more than enough here to satisfy those who gravitate to these kinds of games. While not all is perfect when it comes to its less than ideal performance on the Switch screen, Darksiders Genesis has proved itself worthy for everyone to try it out.

Darksiders Genesis may forever be in the shadow of Diablo III, but that’s not necessarily a bad place to be. If you are a fan of Blizzard’s ARPG, chances are you’ll find a lot to enjoy here. I know that I did.

Darksiders Genesis is, for us, the best entry in the series in terms of its mix of satisfyingly meaty hack-and-slash action and huge levels filled with secrets, puzzles and platforming. With its fully co-op campaign, unlockable arena mode and Apocalyptic difficulty feeding into that addictive Creature Core grinding, there's an absolute ton here for fans of the series – and newcomers alike – to get stuck into. This Switch version may suffer some slight blurriness and FPS hiccups in portable mode but, if you can make peace with these problems, this is a highly entertaining action game at a very reasonable price.

Darksiders Genesis provides a short burst of demon-crunching carnage for hardcore fans of the franchise, but the overall experience is easily eclipsed by other, deeper, more engaging action-RPGs.

When it works, Darksiders Genesis is quite fun and entertaining. Unfortunately the game is plagued by many technical issues and some very questionable design choices that prevent to guarantee an enjoyable experience from start to finish.

For those who want to continue knowing the bloody adventures of the four Riders of the Apocalypse, Darksiders Genesis is a must. On the other hand, if you're looking for the usual saga formula, it can be quite disappointing.

Darksiders Genesis is an excellent addition to the action-RPG genre. While it isn't as polished as Diablo, Genesis delivers a great adventure full of exploration and puzzles to boot. With its main characters there is plenty of fun for veterans of the series as well as new players.

Darksiders Genesis is a minor game in the Darksiders franchise, but despite this, and the playable change of perspective, it is still a 100% Darksiders. Finally we meet the fourth Horseman, Strife, which will bring us a new way to play, and we will put ourselves in the skin of War again. It can be enjoyed perfectly alone but it is in a cooperative, where you can get the most out of the combination of both characters. The Switch version has lacked a technical boost, though it's still fully enjoyable.

Despite of its camera angle, Genesis is a true Darksiders game and a good opportunity to try what it's like to be one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Well, at least two of them.

Darksiders Genesis is a welcome addition to a solid franchise and does a good job at expanding on the universe. Despite the shift in camera perspective, the game retains its signature blend of combat, puzzles and platforming and is a joy to play. Small issues like a woeful map and occasional bugs get in the way of the action a little, but the addition of co-op and the excellent gameplay more than makes up for any shortfalls. Genesis is a must-play for fans of the series and those looking for some solid action on the Switch.
