Overall, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is a good game, but it may not appeal to everyone. If you've seen the anime series, you know what to expect already. This can make the entire game seem a bit dull because there are no surprises. However, if you're looking for an experience where you can relive the best Dragon Ball Z moments – and get immersed in an open world with varying environments – then you should pick it up.

‎Dragon Ball Z embraces the Action-RPG genre for a satisfying work in which we will like its combats and character progression more than its sterile and forced exploration.‎

Despite the roughness that comes with some of its systems, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is one of the best Dragon Ball Z games we’ve ever seen.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot displays unparalleled care and respect for the iconic story arcs it adapts. The original music is there, original Dragon Ball characters return, and pivotal moments are gorgeously animated. If these were stories being presented in video game format for the first time, it would be a mind-blowing experience. Unfortunately, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot doesn't push the envelope enough to warrant sitting through the Cell Saga for the umpteenth time and seeing Frieza get obliterated yet again. If you've played a Dragon Ball Z game before, you've basically played this one.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is not the anime game to end all anime games. It's not going to convert any non-believers or onboard them into this decades-old classic universe. Even as someone who still re-watches DBZ, it can be grating at times — but the juice is mostly worth the squeeze.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot's emphasis on making the world and character interactions of Dragon Ball as important as the fights makes for a solid action-RPG experience.

A competent adaptation of the original anime but there's a serious danger of déjà vu even for series fans, and the solid but unremarkable action is unable to overcome it.

Poor RPG mechanics aside, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is a great way to relive the DBZ's story, flaws and all.

Although it is the weakest choice in terms of graphics among the platforms, it has the advantage of experiencing the Dragon Ball Z adventure on a portable console. Anime lovers should not miss it.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot finally brings what many fans have been asking for and takes the iconic franchise into new territory with a more open world and a ton of RPG mechanics. While this fan-service increase in power level definitely transforms the well-known story into a new form, it's still far from going Ultra Instinct.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot features flashy gorgeous combat and tells the most detailed version of the original storyline yet but a lifeless open world and useless RPG mechanics hold it back.

The combat design is not as good as you would expect from a fighting focused game and the RPG systems are buried under some very confusing UI and menus but all in all, this is one of the best and most fulfilling Dragon Ball video game experiences.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot will appeal to fans of the series without a doubt despite the familiarity of events. However, if you’re like us and aren’t overly familiar with the wider DBZ story then this serves as an entertaining ride to get up-to-speed. The RPG elements aren’t so interesting here although levelling-up moves and the community board is welcome. The fighting works very well and despite some repetition is the main event here. Can we recommend the game then? Well yes it serves as a decent offering for newcomers and younger gamers especially. However, it could improve in some areas such as a more adaptive combat system that allows for advanced players to shine.

The universe of Dragon Ball as we've never seen it before, totally explorable and fully of tributes to the franchise. Its biggest flaw is that as a role-playing game it doesn't measure up, either in combat or in exploration, remaining a mere curiosity for the fan of the animated series.

Dragon Ball Z:Kakarot might not be "the best" Dragon Ball Z we ever played, but it's definitely one of the best of series in years. Due to tons of various contents in the game, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot can takes you to a long entertaining journey. Although it seemed extremely difficult at first, developers somehow managed to tell the story of the anime (which is extremely long) in a single game which is impressive. The only real issues with the game are lack of depth and complicity in gameplayand repetitive combat encounters. Either you are fan of series or just want to play a beautiful anime game, Dragon Ball Z:Kakarot is a good choice for you to try.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is a fantastic avenue for new and casual fans alike, providing a deeper level of insight and immersion into a beloved franchise. However, more seasoned veterans of the series may not be as easily impressed. Fluid, fast, and visually stunning combat combined with some intriguing ideas gives Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot plenty to root for, but it still doesn't feel as fleshed out and creative as its Xenoverse cousin.
