You'll be hard-pressed to find a remake more faithful than Mafia: Definitive Edition. It pays a great deal of respect to the source text with excellent cutscene direction, voice acting, and a cast of characters you can't help but fall in love with. The game definitely shows its age with frustrating controls and vehicle handling, but the next story beat is enough of an excuse to continue pressing forward. Mafia: Definitive Edition's narrative and everything that comes with it holds up to this day, and it's one worth revisiting even if you know it like the back of your hand.

If you're hoping for a sombre tale of lives brought low by the touch of darkness, my advice would be to go for a ride and take in the sights instead.

A good looking and competent retread of a second rate original, which improves on everything from the graphics to the driving model, whilst maintaining the game's cinematic essence.

The definitive edition of Mafia isn't perfect, but the experience is charming thanks to its ability captures the soul of an exciting era to tell us one of the best crime stories in video games. The experience is enough to reinvigorate a game loved by many, but it falls short when it comes to fulfil its full potential.

Mafia: Definitive Edition is a shining example of how a game should be remade. While there are a few issues related to the PC port, animation quality, and how well the gameplay has aged; the updates were focused on maintaining the spirit of game while bringing it into the modern era.

It would be great without some "engineering" problems. But i still can't say "this remake is bad". Don Salieri sends his regards.

Mafia: Definitive Edition is a two-sided coin. On one side we find stunning graphics and a great plot that still manages to captivate us after 18 years, while on the other side we find some meaningful shortcomings that could have been avoided re-designing some aspects of the original game. Despite this, it's still a suggested buy both for people who loved the original game and for the ones that never played it.

The remake takes good care of the story with new cutscenes and dialogues that brings the Italian mafia vibe to life, although gameplay-wise the experience could have been much better.

The hardcore fans of the original will find a lot to nit-pick. But they can return to the original, to remember how archaic it is, or can they try to beat the game in classic mode, "enjoying" the quirks of the original recipe. Despite the criticism, we have to admit that Hangar 13 managed to take an 18 years old game and make it work in 2020, without crushing its soul.

That makes the Definitive Edition something akin to a shot-for-shot remake. It manages to capture the charm of the original, imbues it with modern technology, and freezes all of its flaws in a sepia toned amber.

Mafia: Definitive Edition is a must-play for any fan of the franchise. Although it doesn't quite have the narrative cohesion of Mafia II, it still offers a memorable and gripping story that's set in a gorgeous virtual adaptation of 1930s America.

Mafia Definitive Edition is an ambitious undertaking, partially mined by glitches and lack of game progress from Mafia III but faithfully remaking the original game and adding nuances that surprisingly keep staying loyal to 2002's masterpiece.

A decent, if unremarkable, cover shooter, elevated by artful scene-setting and memorable set-pieces.

The Definitive Edition may not be exactly the same Mafia from 2002, but that's why this game works excelently. Improved gameplay elements, including beautiful City of The Lost Heaven graphics, are just amazing. Arguments such as: excellent acting performances, great voiceover and with a few exceptions, good balanced gameplay, should be enough to get the Definitive Edition into your gamer's crosshair. Lovers of the original Mafia will enjoy the classic with the new visuals. And those who missed the game 18 years ago have a great opportunity to experience the entire original story in a modern design.

Mafia Definitive Edition has raised the stakes. It’s a series that has essentially gone to war on itself by rebuilding, redefining, and reintroducing its stellar narrative to an entirely new generation of gamers. As someone whose family thinks of The Godfather Trilogy as a holy testimony to Italian heritage, Mafia delivers an astounding performance on all fronts from gameplay, presentation, design and delivery.
