Monster Train is a great experience for those who are fans of both deck-building games and roguelike adventures. While there may not seem to be as much content as other titles in the genre, there are random elements and unlockables that allow for a lot of replayability. Monster Train's game mechanics offer a neat spin on the deck-building genre and it will be interesting to see how the game evolves in the future.

If you are willing to turn down the tone-setting battle music, this is an excellent game to unwind with while listening to a podcast—so long as you find this kind of challenge cathartic rather than frustrating.

I've found it hard to recommend deck builders recently because I've either thought they were clones of other games, not all that exciting or they have too much going on, however, in Monster Train they have managed to balance replayability and creativity.

Monster Train is a well made cardbuilding title with plenty of novel and well executed ideas. There can be only one king of the genre, but if the developers keep working on Monster Train, the gap to the throne could shorten considerably.

Monster Train is a good roguelite deckbuilder, but it doesn’t achieve top-tier status. With its rather monotonous appearance and gameplay, it doesn’t keep you coming back for more like the other great rogues. That being said, given its more forgiving nature, this could be a great starter for those that are new to the genre.

A nice deck-building game that capitalizes on the basic ideas seen in Slay the Spire and adds tower-defense to them, creating a unique mix.

Monster Train does indeed deserve to be noticed; it's the epitome of something that is better than it looks. Underneath that blandly homogenised aesthetic and equally bland promise of yet more roguelike lies a game that offers players some deep, invigorating, challenging and rewarding turn-based strategy. You may well find this one very difficult to put down.

Despite being a solid title within the genre, Monster Train: First Class has some rough edges that don't let its potential come out.

Monster Train feels like an evolution of the deck-building genre. Taking it to new heights, even if the game takes place in the pits of hell. Slay the Spire may have set the bar, but Monster Train choo chewed right through it.

Christ. What a thing. Monster Train is at least as good as Slay The Spire. You really should try it.
