Resolutiion is an action game that asks you to ponder big questions, but stops short of wrestling with them itself.

Even from as quick a glimpse of any of the attached screens, Resolutiion is no doubt a looker — a game that manages to use color to great effect.

Resolutiion starts off strong, but a lack of direction and some harsh difficulty spikes make it a bit of a flawed gem.

Through its lengthy story, Resolutiion provides real moments of awe and beauty. From dark and dingy caves through to soaring heights at the peak of the monolithic buildings, the world is a sight to behold, it's just a shame that traversing it doesn't feel any where near as great as it looks. Resolutiion's snappy, visceral combat does help make that journey slightly more bearable, but you'll still likely end up wandering in circles trying to find the right path forward.

Resolutiion may wear its influences on its sleeve, but even then it's managed to carve out a unique identity of its own. You'll see a little bit of Hyper Light Drifter, Dark Souls, and Metroid here, but the overall package is a wholly original sci-fi experiece that's great for folks looking to get lost in a bleak futuristic world.

Resolutiion is an isometric action game, heavly inspired by Hyper Light Drifter, but it has its own soul.

Due to its opaque nature and punishing action, Resolutiion will appeal mostly to fans of dangerous souls-like combat and abstruse exploration in the vein of the original NES Zelda.

This title isn’t for the new gamer. It’s for someone with experience and knowledge; someone who is willing to put in work to reach the conclusion. If you’re looking for an easy game where you can simply hack and slack your way to victory, Resolutiion isn’t for you. But if you’re up for a challenging adventure to call your own, this could be it. As unforgiving as it is, Resolutiion is beautiful, fun and intriguing – and getting to grips with its mesmerising world is a reward in itself.

Resolutiion is going to appeal to players who can accept the game's vagueness in both the gameplay and story. Players would also need to appreciate wild difficulty swings with a serviceable combat system in a setting that can sometimes be described as a fever dream. It's certainly not going to be a huge hit, but there's enough here to appeal to those who are looking for something different.

Resolutiion ultimately provides more frustration than fun, and its efforts to stand out make it hard to decipher and at times too much of a chore to play.

Resolutiion is an engaging and fun action-adventure that delivers an enjoyable experience in the genre. From the very beginning, you’ll feel as if you’ve played it all before, and this is just more of the same. However, it ends up setting itself apart through its clever environments, progression system, and narrative, which was enough to keep me engaged throughout the entire adventure.

If you enjoyed Hyper Light Drifter and like me, you’re a sucker for good pixelart, there are things to like in Resolutiion. It’s got plenty of HLD’s beauty, just little of its charm. Basic combat, an empty world devoid of reasons to return, and some odd design choices, mar its otherwise great potential.

A game that should be enjoyed by anyone who likes to discover a story and piece together lore as opposed to something streamlined and linear like many titles are.
