Far Cry 6 is the best version of Ubisoft's open world formula to date, but whether that's still a selling point to you is up for debate. The few advancements and new mechanics won't be enough to convince those burnt out to return for one more exotic trip, but if you're down for another lengthy checklist to complete, then the series has never been better. It's another healthy serving of comfort food; one that sticks to what it knows best while slightly iterating positively.

Far Cry 6 feels like a sequel that was made because there needed to be a sequel, that's making changes because it needs to show progress. The previous three numbered games in the series felt like they had their own identity and tried to offer more and more options to the player, but Far Cry 6 is a lateral move towards something that isn't quite the Far Cry I originally loved.

Far Cry 6 is another well-crafted entry in Ubisoft's long-running franchise. While the framework of the series is still in place, the title introduces welcome changes such as a real protagonist and extensive customization that make this an improvement on its predecessor.

"Ubisoft Game", when you hear that you can predict what you're going to get. An open-world experience with lots of monotonous optional objectives. Far Cry 6 is exactly that, a large open map with lots of similar optional objectives as you attempt to take back Yara for the people and dethrone dictator Anton Castillo. It does more of what past Far Cry games since the soft reboot of the franchise with Far Cry 3, this time with a new location and characters. The strong performances, impressive visuals, and incredible cutscenes are Far Cry 6's saving grace but the gameplay is a repetitive grind that a "Ubisoft Game" is known for.

Far Cry 6 is sure to please long-time series veterans and newcomers alike. It just doesn't break any new ground.

Far Cry 6 is a fun return to the series that feels both familiar and fresh. The new gear and weapons systems are compellingly fun, and the setting of Yara is a joy to get lost in. It doesn't quite escape the series' trademark foibles, but the interlocking gameplay systems and mechanics mesh satisfyingly to create a compelling open-world adventure. Far Cry 6 does enough to push the franchise's issues to the background most of the time, offering up an enjoyable experience that looks good, plays well and succeeds in capturing the essence of the series.

Far Cry 6 sets its player up for hours upon hours of unadulterated, open-world, action-adventure goodness. While it does contain some very rough glitches and a few story beats that fall a little flat, the over-the-top charm of the series has never been as refined as it is here. Far Cry fans, make sure you’ve got the 6th entry in your shopping cart.

Far Cry 6 doesn’t revolutionize the formula, but it offers enough new content and ideas to keep players busy with the series’ best entry yet.

Overall, the storyline is good enough to make you care, and the gameplay is amazing and full of variety. Whether that’s enough to make players come back to the Far Cry series, that’s really up to you and your preferences. I’ve been playing Far Cry 6 for almost forty hours, and it was one of the most enjoyable experiences I had in a sandbox game in a while. Surely, you can argue that Ubisoft could take a riskier step towards changing the game formula, but that might ruin the essence of the game. Either way, there’s enough to keep you busy for a long time here.

Starting to feel like a case of diminishing returns, Far Cry 6 retreads the same formula that's stood the series in good stead for a while, but it's a formula that's starting to wear a bit thin. Still, there's some fun to be had here, despite there being little that's new or innovative.

Likewise for outfitting your guns with separate types of bullets that target weaknesses on opponents. Since this requires a clumsy change via the menu-and more to the point, because you're invariably getting swarmed by a mess of soldiers of different classes-thinking this system was anything other than worthless was shortsighted on the developers' part. (And if this entire section sounds like a mess of menus, it is, so your mileage may vary there.)

Far Cry 6’s charismatic cast and chaotic combat remains tried and true with a number of questionable design choices bringing the action down a notch.

Yes, its AI is slow and a bit stupid. Its driving and flying mechanics are dated. Those all-new ideas just don’t quite land. Its UI seems getting more confusing with every new game. But Far Cry 6 is definitely the most fun I’ve had from the series since the delightful Far Cry 3–even if everything seems to hinge on extremes, and rely on old tricks.

Far Cry is clearly not ready for the meaningful identity shift it’s inching towards. I hope it gets there soon. It’s long overdue.

I guess the best accolade I can give this game so far is that it’s another Far Cry game, and it’s a good one at that. It’s nice to see the return of the player character’s actual character. The villain is monstrous yet complex. Things explode. But it’s probably going to feel like a drag for far longer than it should, both in gameplay and in the story.

Though it can be really fun, especially when it descends into absolute chaos, Far Cry 6 is overstuffed and disjointed, with so many ideas that it's tough to focus.

The 6th installment in the Far Cry series has nothing very new to say, as it continues to build on a successful formula that keeps the fans happy and willing to come back for more. Exciting gunplay, just enough content spread across a huge map and a standard Far Cry core gameplay seem enough to overtake most of the shortcomings and keep the fans busy for yet another year.

Far Cry 6 sits at the dead-end of a decade of sandboxes. Existing primarily as a sprawling checklist, its story shows flashes of excellence in a barrage of bad jokes and sometimes fun but familiar tasks.
