Battletoads smashed through with it's reboot after 26 years, with engaging visuals, a banging soundtrack, and gameplay that rarely gets stale I found the game a breath of fresh air bringing me back to simpler times where games were the only thing on my mind. It's a epic addition to the franchise, and Dlala doesn't disappoint.

The aesthetics remind us of cheap kids’ animation, while the exaggeration in the design of almost everything (character models, sound, dialogues, plot) is very evident.

Playing Battletoads is like having a box of sweets for lunch. It's no doubt unique and some of the chocolates can be quite delicious, but after you're done, you'll just regret not having a regular meal instead.

Dlala Studios' reboot/sequel of these antique amphibians deftly juggles its varied gameplay conceits and meta-humor, with only Rare missteps.

The Battletoads are back after being bunkered away for 26 years. Dlala Studios has done the impossible and made these forgotten toads relevant once again. Don't call Gamestop, Xbox Game Pass has your game ready and waiting.

Battletoads is an enjoyable experience that can be completed within five hours, but it’s nothing more than that.

Battletoads delivers a fun and challenging 2D action experience with a good variety between fighting, platforming and other game styles, and with a great soundtrack. It unluckily ended up being a bit too short, and lack of online co-op is a real letdown.

The return of the battle toads has been anything but discreet, it could not be otherwise. Zitz, Rash and Pimple return in a visually powerful game tailored to their equally powerful personalities, with the combination of genres that their other games used. Pacing problems, the distribution of the phases and those game genres, tarnish the gameplay. And about the aesthetics and the general argument, let each one judge for himself, because they have won me on that side at least.

Battletoads is a product suitable especially for those who love the vintage side of video games. Despite this, it is able to excite even those who, instead, love modernity and above all the originality of the media. Fun and style are the watchwords of the latest Rare effort.

Battletoads offers a fun but short beat em' up experience filled with minigames that fans of the original games will like.

There isn’t much to hate about this latest Battletoads; I found it a lot of fun. But I know that the humor will get on some people’s nerves and you’ll have a group of people out there that feel the combat is too repetitive. Oh, and of course, the lack of online co-op will upset some folks. But even with all that, I still feel as if Battletoads is a great way to spend your afternoon. Not to mention, it’s on Xbox Game Pass, so if you already subscribe, there’s nothing to lose by giving it a try. It’s crazy to think that after all these years, that there would be a good Battletoads game. Maybe we’re the ones stuck in a simulation, trapped in an alternate universe where Battletoads is good, and the world around us is terrible. If that’s the case, then let me out, let me out now. Just let me sneak a copy of this game with me, though, ok?

Battletoads holds a special place in the hearts of many gamers. However, Battletoads 2020 is not the same experience as it was 26 years ago. It has evolved and knows how to distinguish itself. The game still has the beat 'em up action that you can enjoy, even if it's a bit on the lean side. Despite some fewer fights, the game is packed with all kinds of content. Riding your turbo bike, platforming and even space invaders action make for an incredibly diverse playthrough that feels entertaining and fresh from start to finish. Paired with colorful graphics, a banger of a soundtrack and wonderful couch co-op, Battletoads is a lot better than I could have imagined. At a time when old IPs are being excavated, it's nice to see this legendary franchise treated with respect. I hope to see more of the Battletoads in the near future and especially when the quality is as strong as this game. Rash, Pimple and Zitz are back baby!

Overall, the new Battletoads feels like a great way to continue the franchise. Rare put these cult classic characters in very capable hands, making for a very entertaining, yet still challenging, sequel. It’s definitely not going to be a long game, lasting only a handful of hours, but the replay value with friends will last much longer.

Even though Battletoads has its flaws, it is easily the most unique and interesting first-party title to arrive on Xbox in this current generation.

Battletoads could have survived by doing a lot less, yet Dlala has gone above and beyond what would have been required to grab the attention of hardcore fans. The result is a challenging, yet accessible, ‘90s inspired beat-em-up that doesn’t rely on nostalgia to be charming, fun and engaging. Sure, there’s some aspects of the game that feel a bit lacklustre or frustrating, but at its core, Battletoads is full of heart. This revival has put the toads back in the spotlight, giving them more of a chance to shine than ever before. Hell, I wouldn’t be surprised if Rash, Zitz, and Pimple end up with their own TV show.

Sure, it’s just an above average beat ’em up when you analyze it technically, but it won me over with its animations, soundtrack, and sense of humor. It knows the franchise has never been that good to begin with, resulting in a neverending barrage of self-aware jokes and meta humoristic situations that made me smile at all times.

One of the best strongest points is the fact that if you’re playing solo or with a friend, you can switch between Rash, Zitz and Pimple by pressing the corresponding d-pad arrow (except the shmups and platforming levels). This gives players a chance to try out all three characters and also a lifeline if the current character they are using is near death, they can switch with a full health character.

Battletoads has a notorious reputation among older gamers as both an incredibly challenging yet insanely wacky series. The franchise was one of Rare's smash hits but has been on a multi-decade hiatus and limited to cameo appearances until now. With Dlala Studios reviving the dormant franchise with a brand new entry that remains loyal to the original beat 'em up formula but with cartoonish hand-drawn visuals. Battletoads is a surprisingly amusing and lighthearted title with a charming story and fun combat and serves as a great new start for the franchise. If only it didn't release it with a major technical issue.
