Battletoads is back after more than 26 years with a very fun and diverse adventure. Even if its tone or artistic direction can alienate some, this is a great, fun and solid game.

It’s great to see the Toads back. Hopefully it’s not another 26 years before they grace our screens again. Toadally awesome.

Battletoads could have survived by doing a lot less, yet Dlala has gone above and beyond what would have been required to grab the attention of hardcore fans. The result is a challenging, yet accessible, ‘90s inspired beat-em-up that doesn’t rely on nostalgia to be charming, fun and engaging. Sure, there’s some aspects of the game that feel a bit lacklustre or frustrating, but at its core, Battletoads is full of heart. This revival has put the toads back in the spotlight, giving them more of a chance to shine than ever before. Hell, I wouldn’t be surprised if Rash, Zitz, and Pimple end up with their own TV show.

Even though Battletoads has its flaws, it is easily the most unique and interesting first-party title to arrive on Xbox in this current generation.

Overall, the new Battletoads feels like a great way to continue the franchise. Rare put these cult classic characters in very capable hands, making for a very entertaining, yet still challenging, sequel. It’s definitely not going to be a long game, lasting only a handful of hours, but the replay value with friends will last much longer.

Battletoads holds a special place in the hearts of many gamers. However, Battletoads 2020 is not the same experience as it was 26 years ago. It has evolved and knows how to distinguish itself. The game still has the beat 'em up action that you can enjoy, even if it's a bit on the lean side. Despite some fewer fights, the game is packed with all kinds of content. Riding your turbo bike, platforming and even space invaders action make for an incredibly diverse playthrough that feels entertaining and fresh from start to finish. Paired with colorful graphics, a banger of a soundtrack and wonderful couch co-op, Battletoads is a lot better than I could have imagined. At a time when old IPs are being excavated, it's nice to see this legendary franchise treated with respect. I hope to see more of the Battletoads in the near future and especially when the quality is as strong as this game. Rash, Pimple and Zitz are back baby!

There isn’t much to hate about this latest Battletoads; I found it a lot of fun. But I know that the humor will get on some people’s nerves and you’ll have a group of people out there that feel the combat is too repetitive. Oh, and of course, the lack of online co-op will upset some folks. But even with all that, I still feel as if Battletoads is a great way to spend your afternoon. Not to mention, it’s on Xbox Game Pass, so if you already subscribe, there’s nothing to lose by giving it a try. It’s crazy to think that after all these years, that there would be a good Battletoads game. Maybe we’re the ones stuck in a simulation, trapped in an alternate universe where Battletoads is good, and the world around us is terrible. If that’s the case, then let me out, let me out now. Just let me sneak a copy of this game with me, though, ok?

Hopefully this won’t be the last time we see Battletoads again for another two decades. We as a generation of gamers continue to get older, especially those of us which love this style of game. With time having a finite number on all of us, it’s an amazing feeling when a franchise and game such as this that you have such fond memories of as a child is able to burst back onto the scene in a big way. Even with its slight pacing issues and relative simplistic difficulty, Battletoads is worth your time and attention, especially all of you out there with access to Xbox Game Pass.

Battletoads is a great beat 'em up game even for people, who have never played one. Countless different minigames are an interesting and funny refreshment that will however not please hardcore players.

The Battletoads are back from the dead. With an all-new graphics scheme and cool new features, the brawler lets you take the role of Zitz, Pimple, and Rash once again. The game offers over-the-top chaotic fights for up to three players. Next to that Battletoads honors, it's rooted by bringing in elements from other genres, like platformers and shmups. The humor is hilarious, but unfortunately, there are also a few weaker elements in the game that cramp its style.

The Battletoads reboot has a little something for everyone. It's accessible, well-executed, and largely rewarding. It captures the energy and spirit of the franchise for diehard fans while also providing the best possible entry point for new fans. Sure, it might be a little simpler compared to some of the more expansive titles available today, but it does a stellar job of bringing Battletoads into the modern era while also harkening back to the days of playing the game on NES. It's the kind of game you'll want to spend hours in... even if you want to rage quit here and there.

The return of Battletoads is a surprising and carefully crafted game in many ways. But the desire to do too much makes him lose lucidity and ends up watering down an adventure in itself too short.

The new Battletoads is a convincing return for the historic Rare brand, characterized by excellent art direction and writing. Some pacing issues ruin the overall enjoyment of the game, but it is still a very satisfying experience.

Battletoads has a fun story, great soundtrack, disgusting sound effects, beautiful visuals, and radical characters, but the gameplay does suffer mostly from questionable button mapping. Despite some of these concerns, Rare Studios has finally released a competent successor for fans to enjoy after nineteen years of waiting.

Battletoads retains the DNA of its hard as nails source material, reworking it into a chaotic brawler that's fascinating to see in action, looks gorgeous, and never overstays its welcome.

Battletoads is a great game, a successful mix of many genres but one that doesn't excel in any of these. Particularly suited to those who love the variety of games, the exclusive Microsoft will disappoint those who expected a faithful return to the origins.

When it was all said and done, Battletoads isn’t going to win awards for writing, doesn’t set a new bar for any single genre, and none of their mini games should be spun off into full fledged games. Yet Dlala created something fun here, kept me engaged and offered a good amount of content without over-staying its welcome. This is a good effort for a new studio and I’m looking forward to seeing what they can do in the future. In these troubled times we live in, I welcome a game that exists solely to be bright, over the top, and fun. Battletoads may not be the best retro reboot this year, but it’s a good time nonetheless.
