A well designed, turn-based roguelike with a winning art style and a wide variety of options – even if it is a bit too random.

While not perfect, Crown Trick has managed to give a unique rogue-like experience to a genre oversaturated with copy-paste ideas.

Crown Trick offers turn-based tactical depth as you battle your foes on numerous dungeon floors. You'll chain the effects from traps, items, spells, and the elements, all while hoping you're lucky with the RNG. It's rogue-lite goodness wrapped in a challenging, engaging, and highly enjoyable package. Just be ready to restart manually often if you want to have an ideal run.

Crown Trick is a very cute, addictive and thoughtful game with a small number of problems. The biggest one lays in the dungeons' sameness.

The ever-changing labyrinth, brimming with creative design choices, renders Crown Trick greater than the sum of its parts. There is only ever a dull moment when the player gets very, very unlucky. Otherwise, the game is a revolving door of “wow” encounters, colorful combat, and epic loot drops. It’s the amalgamation of turn-based RPGs, Chess, and dungeon crawlers in one erratic rogue-lite package. So if you want to exercise that brain matter, feel free to give this experience a go.

Crown Trick is a stylish and strategic roguelite that slows the usually frenetic pace of its genre down and introduces some rhythmic turn-based battling to proceedings. Elle's ability to blink around arenas, combined with the plethora of powers she gains from the many weapons, relics and familiars she encounters along the way, also adds plenty of variety and flexibility to the runs you'll make here. There are some UI niggles that need addressing, the inherently random nature of the core gameplay can plague proceedings now and again and busy battles can become hard to read at times but, overall, this one's a very solid effort that fans of roguelites should definitely check out.

While you may have to be prepared for a slow start and a grind, there's fun to be found in Crown Trick, thanks to its unique turn-based take on roguelike dungeon crawlers, its enjoyable and deep mechanics, and the vibrant world of the Nightmare Realm. Whether you're a patient player, a strategy buff or just someone looking for something different, NEXT Studios have something for you that might not be an absolute dream, but will be an interesting little fantasy.

With an enchanting art style Crown Trick is a delight to play, yet is challenging and frustrating before you master its combat system.

A Rouge-Like cross between Braid and Bastion, that's a good thing (without Ron Perlman's voice... that's a bad thing :( )

Crown Trick is a classic dungeon crawler with some interesting new mechanics. Though it's not the most different game out there and not even an outstanding one, it does a good job delivering the vibe. Gameplay is engaging and the art style is really beautiful. If you're a fan of the genre, you should go for Crown Trick.

You’ll have to leave any run-and-gun sensibilities at the door when you jump into Crown Trick; it’s a game about thoughtful manoeuvres and carefully-planned attacks. But it results in combat that’s extremely rewarding, and a challenge that’s a lot of fun to take on. Progressing in Crown Trick may be tricky, but it’s never insurmountable – and you’ll be enjoying yourself so much that you’ll want to keep jumping back in, seeing if you can get that bit further next time.

Despite these drawbacks, Crown Trick very quickly dug its claws into us. While it may not be everyone and isn't as approachable as other recent attempts at the genre, it's unashamedly challenging in all the right ways. It has a beautiful art style, a fantastic soundtrack, complex gameplay and an addictive loop that will make you want to have just 'one more go'. It's a perfect Xbox Game Pass title and a fantastic game in its own right.

Crown Trick is replayable, fun, tactical, and full of meaningful variety. If you like rogue type games at all, it's a must-have and sets a high bar for the genre. If it doesn't end up as a game of the year contender, it dang well should be.

Crown Trick is a roguelike that isn’t afraid to make you feel overpowered through its systems. However, it’s also not afraid to test your skills by introducing powerful enemies and traps. No matter what, though, there are plenty of ways for the player to take on the challenge. It’s this design that makes Crown Trick a must-play for both dungeon-crawler and roguelike fans.

Crown Trick will go unnoticed by many, since it is not the best roguelike this year and has a very cartoon-like appearance. But underneath that layer, there is a complex game, with a variety of situations, weapons, enemies and much more. For fans of the genre, I recommend it, since it is different from other titles.
