Great replay value, with an engaging combat system and insane difficulty that you'll never get used to. What's not to like?

Nioh 2 – The Complete Edition is a phenomenal game. And while I would personally recommend getting it on PS4 over PC due to personal circumstances, there really isn’t a whole lot else to say about this game that isn’t some form of praise. If you’re a fan of the original Nioh, or soulslike games in general, this is absolutely something worth picking up. And for those of you who aren’t so accustomed to games like this one? Well, so long as you go in with the right mindset and strive to keep improving yourself, you should end up loving it, too.

Nioh 2 arrived on PlayStation 4 in March 2020 and on Playstation 5 and PC, titled Nioh 2 – The Complete Edition, in February this year. The PC and PlayStation 5 versions include DLC packs released for the original PlayStation 4 version. Its events take place both before and after those in the original Nioh game, released on PlayStation 4 and PC in 2017. I let my passion for Japanese culture guide me in picking up this game to review. I have not played Nioh and therefore had no insight into backstory or game mechanics before beginning my playthrough. Was this a blessing in disguise? Or did this turn into a nightmare? Read my Rapid Review below to find out.

To sum up, if you did not stock up on this production during its original release or, like me, you are PC-fan, then Nioh 2 in its best form is at your fingertips.

If nothing else, Nioh 2 proves that demon hunting isn’t for the faint of heart. Leave your hat at home and wear those bald patches of hair torn out in frustration like a badge of honour!

Nioh 2: Complete Edition gives the same basic sensations of the previous chapter, but expands its content greatly making the gamer’s new objective not to ends the story, but more the improving of his digital alter ego with mechanics taken from the games with online component or MMO. As a fan of the genre and noting the vast array of options available for building the character, I feel the lack of a PVP component, even restricted to arenas or various modes, but which would give that final touch of fun to a title that offers hundreds of hours of content. The lack of a more intricate level design in favor of a mission progressions system continues to be a flaw, as well as in the first chapter, but in the same way it allows for longer content in the plot and in the single-player progression. For those who have already played the title until the last DLC a few months ago, this Complete Edition doesn’t offer substantial news, but for all new players on PC hungry for high difficulty and Japanese action it is a real godsend. On the technical side there are improvements compared to the basic version, but not those improvements as clear as could be expected.

Nioh 2's Complete Edition is an absolutely massive RPG with a dynamic combat system. Team Ninja created one of the greatest games in the genre in the last couple of years that polishes the gameplay systems to a mirror sheen.

Overall, Nioh 2: The Complete Edition for the PC was an amazing port from the Sony PlayStation 4 once you get the settings right. At this current point, I’ve played through the main campaign coming in just under fifty hours but as of yet I cannot comment on the three DLCs of The Tengu's Disciple, Darkness in the Capital, and The First Samurai. So because of this, I’ll be back shortly with another article covering the other three additions as they were originally extras to the main title and have their own sets of modifications and obviously twists and turns.

Nioh 2 - The Complete Edition is the definitive version of one of the best games of the generation. Complex, difficult and rewarding, here is a title that has content and the potential to entertain players for days, weeks and even months on end. The PC version is extremely welcome, as, above all, it means that more people will be able to enjoy this masterpiece. The adventure may at times become too complex, but the quality of all the elements is undeniable. It is not always that we see a franchise respect its inspirations and deliver a product that exceeds expectations. Therefore, if you are interested in the genre and are aware of the difficulty involved, it is worth venturing into this fascinating universe.

Team Ninja’s second stab at the Souls-like formula is even better than the first, delivering a relentless action RPG that feels at home on PC, in spite of a few technical issues.

Nioh 2 is a refinement of an already great game. The biggest flaw in my opinion of the previous title was that it was difficult to hop into. Truly getting to know a moveset required an investment that wasn’t always easy to recover, and trying to put together a build felt foolish for anything you’d replace down the line. Now it feels a lot more open to experimentation.

The PC release of Nioh 2 may not be perfect but it’s still well worth visiting. The locales are stunning, the combat is as great as ever and the boss fights will have you on the edge of your seat most of the time. I’ve died much more than I’d like to admit, but I’ve loved every minute of it.

Nioh 2 developers are like some ruthless gods of the old myths, they have designed some of the biggest challenges of the video games history but they also have given enough tools to you to overcome all these challenges, you only have to have the will and perseverance to do it. You don’t necessarily need to be a masochist to have fun with it but that helps with your overall enjoyment. And last but not least, this Complete Edition gives you a lot of content that you wouldn’t need to buy anything else for some time.

Nioh 2 - The Complete Edition adds 3 good downloadable contents to an already excellent game. If we add to this an extraordinary PC conversion, we have a practically perfect game that will give us many hours of challenge.

Nioh 2: Complete Edition offers an absurd amount of content. With dozens of hours of story-driven content, a solid three-player multiplayer mode, and multiple new difficulties for new game+ playthroughs, there’s a lot of great content to play through, even if you do not want to touch the grindy end game known as the underworld. The story can be largely ignored, but the core gameplay and the complexity of the mechanics are satisfying to master make Nioh 2: Complete Edition a great option for any fan of the genre.

Nioh 2 on PC is the same great and challenging experience. It’s packed with content that spans a lengthy timeline of nightmares making this release a must for anyone who held out on the PS4 version or who can’t get enough. The graphical options only make a great game better, but even after 120 hours, I still don’t understand anything about this plot.

Nioh 2 – The Complete Edition is a very difficult game, but an easy recommendation on PC, as its being the definitive way to play the game. Sure, there’s new consoles out there, but the performance and options for PC are unmatched here. Nioh 2 itself is the toughest one yet, now with even better rewards and variety. Every new feature, mechanic, and system in place is a worthwhile addition, and fits the game, so long as you’re willing to learn it. Nioh 2 – The Complete Edition demands your best, and gives you the best action role-playing game out there.

Methodical combat, great enemy design and a sprawling package overflowing with content makes this a game I can easily recommend for hardened gamers and souls-like fans. No difficulty options exist here, so if you are looking for a chilled gaming experience then cast your gaze elsewhere.
