Mass Effect: Legendary Edition brings a major graphical evolution to one of the biggest RPG franchises, but that's the only notable change. The collection seems to have been designed only for longtime fans who wanted to see their favorite saga in current visuals, without worrying about gaining new admirers by keeping gameplay somewhat dated and not translating the text into other languages, such as Portuguese.

The Mass Effect trilogy is a personal all-time favourite of this here reviewer, and Legendary Edition comes highly recommended to anyone that enjoys sci-fi narratives, regardless of preferred genres or experience. As games, each has its faults and glitches that can't be glossed over today, but this package as a whole is a gripping adventure that takes players all over the Milky Way galaxy, meeting fascinating characters and alien races, of whom many will stick long in the memory. The lore will always be the absolute reason for anyone to give this a try, and it's highly likely that no matter the issues, the story and crew will be more than enough to keep you going to see this grand adventure right to the end. Unfortunately, one too many complaints are difficult to ignore and hold it back from being the remaster this deserved to be.

The curtain call of the original Mass Effect trilogy is unfortunately its weakest entry. However, there's still enough here to warrant guiding your Shepard to finishing what they started.

Mass Effect Legendary Edition is the the best way to play the Mass Effect trilogy in 2021, but with an expensive launch price, some work on the graphics but none on the animations.

While retaining some flaws of the original games, Mass Effect Legendary Edition (and specifically ME1's remaster and modern take on the action) is worth exploring once again for the fans, and for those who've always wondered what was so special about the franchise and never gave it a try.

If you own an 8th or 9th generation console and haven’t had the opportunity to play any of the Mass Effect games, think no more – buying Legendary Edition is pretty much mandatory. It’s a terrific remaster. But if you prefer to play on a PC, you may hesitate with a purchase as the original trilogy is much, much cheaper.

Mass Effect Legendary Edition is the best way to enjoy an unmissable collection for both fans of the saga and those who have yet to get to know it.

This three-games-in-one package is convenient, but I can't help thinking these games deserved to be remade separately over several years, ditching stuff that doesn't work like the minigames, reinstating cut content and filling gaps rather than just draping shinier skyboxes over them. Still, ME1 is better than it used to be. It's no longer tempting to skip straight to ME2, though once you leave the Citadel you should stick to the main questline and only do side missions when your squadmates ask. And play as a woman if you want to hear a really great voice performance.

As an all-in-one package with quality of life improvements, Mass Effect Legendary Edition gives ample reasons to (re)embark the Normandy as Commander Shepard for memorable intergalactic missions, but still leaves wanting on certain fronts for a truly legendary experience.

And so to the finale. If you're new to the trilogy then just ignore the naysayers and enjoy the ride. Long since Mass Effect 3 sent fans into a rage they've had Game of Thrones and The Rise of Skywalker to focus their ire, but this game's ending deserves no such hostility. The failure of 2017's Mass Effect: Andromeda thwarted Bioware's plans to expand the universe (exploring a different galaxy) but a sequel to the original trilogy was announced in December. In the meantime, this is audacious, epic storytelling filled with wonderful characters and spectacular locations, the likes of which we've not seen since and we're unlikely to see for some time.

Remasters are a dime a dozen nowadays, and more often than not, I find that most of them aren't done very well. Simply bringing a game forward and upgrading the resolution to 4K for any title often isn't enough to impress me. Fortunately, Mass Effect Legendary Edition does not fall into this category. BioWare has done quite a bit here to make this beloved series more accessible than it has been in quite some time, especially when it comes to the visuals. Whether you're looking to play through the trilogy for your tenth time or you're finally looking to give the series a shot for the first time, Mass Effect Legendary Edition is absolutely the way in which you should experience all three games moving forward.

While it may have benefitted more from a full remake, it definitely gets the job done.

Mass Effect Legendary Edition might just offer a new look at some older games, but it still stands tall as one of the best and most memorable RPG series around.

Even with its flaws, the Mass Effect trilogy is still a grand adventure. It features some of the best world-building and character development in gaming culture, and the story is so intriguing that the missteps at the end are easily overshadowed by the previous story beats.

Honestly, I’m so appreciative that Bioware re-released this trilogy. It’s a landmark piece of gaming history. It makes me appreciate not just the franchise itself, but the ways the game industry’s grown as well. It’s great thinking about developers and indie titles inspired by Mass Effect. The same goes for the modern AAA games that matured in its wake. It may not be perfect, but neither are any of us. It’s a product of its time trying to make the space better, and it did quite the job.

Mass Effect : Legendary Edition is without a doubt the best way for a new generation of players to discover the series while EA prepares the next chapter. It's also a great way to please long time fans in a very short term. However, a couple of defaults came back and a few new ones appeared along the way.

Mass Effect Legendary Edition has so much to offer fans and newcomers despite Mass Effect 1 showing its age in some areas. The collection does a great job of preserving these titles for future generations to create their own Shepards and experience this space adventure. Thankfully, there’s plenty of quality-of-life systems addressed in this remaster, making it one that is packed with exciting narratives and memorable action.
