A constant pulsing between hits, misses and strange decisions that nevertheless shines so bright in its good points that it makes the less graceful ones a fun oddity to think about as you wander through its absorbing world and intriguing story.

Biomutant has ambition but at the end of the day, it just isn’t all that fun. Experiment 101 put together a strange chimera of ideas in their game that never quite connects in meaningful ways. Finding fun was hard because the story isn’t great, exploration is a chore, and combat is serviceable. I did like the puzzle-like nature of the Worldeater boss fights because they break the monotony of quests. Technologically speaking, the game looks and performs well enough. However, I encountered a few bugs that required dying or hopping to the title screen to fix. All in all, Biomutant had the potential to be a frolicking Zelda-like but everything about this ecologically-minded adventure falls short of its ambition.

Biomutant still sits in the slightly-above-average tier of its genre, albeit much more confidently than before.

Certainly representing the definitive version of the flawed but ultimately enjoyable Biomutant on PlayStation consoles, Biomutant's PS5 debut largely erases the performance issues and instability that plagued the PS4 version of the game, delivering a handsomely made open-world adventure that can be enjoyed by gamers of all ages.

Even a year later, Biomutant still left us impressed in just about every area. From the adventure to the world and its history to the characters and quirks, Biomutant remains a compelling title. That said, the PS5 iteration doesn't feel that ambitious. The positives, such as an increase in fur and its interactions with the world, come with divisive negatives, like level of detail pop and controller features. It's still a good title for those who haven't played it before, but if you've already finished the game, you'll be thankful that you don't need to pay more for a marginally improved experience.

The open-world aspect of Biomutant did more harm than good, with the gargantuan, post-apocalyptic realm this heroic, mutated rodent will explore being mostly an empty one, and with the rest of the experience being repetitive and unpolished. More of a disappointment rather than a bad game, try it out only if willing to spend around many fun, but not that fun hours.

BioMutant features a lot of interesting components, but they convey a feeling that none have been truly polished. In fact, the recurring feeling is one of lack of purpose, leading to a somewhat salty and simplistic experience. Despite everything it is visually appealing and it has a fun and diverse combat mechanics. It is mainly a game suitable for those who like to explore every corner and always have some content outside the main quests.

Biomutant certainly has its moments. Unfortunately, many bugs, unbalanced fights, and the sheer abundance of systems always give the little rodent a leg up. Many things seem monotonous, the tribal fights get boring after the second round and those who always keep their distance can even defeat the strongest "Lupa Lupin". In addition, there is the storyteller, who has too little to say on the one hand and far too much to say on the other. Biomutant definitely has potential to be much more entertaining. It seems as if the developers simply put more on the plate than they could actually squeeze out. It's a shame, because the little ball of yarn has grown on me a bit, despite a few quirks.

It pains me to say that Biomutant feels like a lot of rough drafts of ideas were cobbled together to create an incoherent whole. Experiment 101 has a lot of interesting things at work here and I really hope they keep making games, but focusing in one or two of their best concepts instead of tossing everything they have at a game would serve them well.

Those were the first words mentioned about Biomutant, found in an advertisement in GamesMarkt, a German gaming magazine. However, it was officially announced a couple of days later on the 21st of August 2017: since then, the hype and expectations have been growing and growing. Personally, I haven’t been following Biomutant‘s development from the very beginning. I purposely avoided looking too much into it, first learning about it I believe at E3 last year. For open-world RPGs, I love experiencing them with just a basic idea of the story!

Biomutant has a sizeable number of flaws. It feels as though the developers wanted to incorporate too many great ideas, and as a consequence, left the game unfocused and unfinished. Many players could overlook the weak combat and storytelling, (exploring the expansive world is enjoyable for a time) but the price tag makes the game impossible to recommend on release. $60 is too much for what amounts to an early access indie game.

Biomutant has some structural problems; the game tries to be much bigger than it can, and it ends up unable to shine in any field. However, the game still gets to a good general level, being able to entertain the player for a considerable number of hours.

Away from the diluted AAA experience and the quirky Indie market, Biomutant slots somewhere in the middle, taking the best and worst aspects that these two extremes have to offer.

Biomutant doesn't revolutionize action RPGs, but it's a title that will be worth playing after a few more updates or a price drop.

Biomotent is an interesting game that could have been better if its creators had more experience and resources. The Biomotent experience is recommended when there is a significant discount and there is no better game on the market.

Biomutant has loads of potential. There’s a beautiful world to explore, interesting and dynamic combat, and an endless loot system. It’s unfortunate that the story is so bland and the quests are near non-existent. The narrator is a bold move, but ends up taking away more than it adds. I had high hopes for Biomutant, but it’s issues hold it back from greatness that it deserved. I hope we get a sequel one day to make improvements on the foundation set here. Polishing up this amazing world could end in an amazing game. Despite the flaws, I still recommend fans of RPG’s and open-world games pick this up and try it for themselves.

There’s plenty of fun to be had with Biomutant if you’re willing to dig through a fairly solid layer of jank to get to it.

You might ask if cuteness is compatible with RPGs, and the answer is definitely yes. Between wonderful panoramas and furious brawls, we will be amazed in a way that we believed was possible only when we were children.
