Unfortunately, the best way to describe Dariusburst Another Chronicle EX+ is as follows: a console port that feels like it isn’t supposed to be played on console. As a result, it feels like a cheap experience – a rehash of highlights without any thought as to how the package fits together as a whole. Perhaps most egregiously, the medium through which this console version is played appears to be an afterthought at best.

While there are many questionable choices present, DariusBurst: Another Chronicle EX+ remains an enjoyable shmup.

DariusBurst Another Chronicle EX+ is as thin as $40 can stretch the fifth iteration of its namesake. Its cumulative and sweeping arrangement of DariusBurst's horizontal shooting excellence is, objectively speaking, worth an investment of time. Its position against Dariusburst: Chronicle Saviours in the same marketplace, along with its own slapdash assembly, weakens its necessity in any enthusiast's collection.

DariusBurst Another Chronicle EX+ is your basic arcade space game, but with some really cool boss designs. Whilst the difficulty feels exclusionary to more casual gamers, fans of the genre are likely to really enjoy this game, although it may not be worth the hefty price tag.

Dariusburst: Another Chronicle EX+ is the most complete version of the arcade game, but it's not yet optimized for home consumption.

So, Dariusburst: Another Chronicle EX+ is a bit of a disappointment, then. The core gameplay still shines, the visuals hold up despite their age, and the soundtrack kicks ass, as ever. Event mode pales in comparison to Chronicle Saviours mode though, and the whole affair being presented in the original arcade format does it no favours whatsoever. Throw in a steep asking price, and you have a game that you should think long and hard about before splashing your cash.

Dariusburst: Another Chronicle EX+ isn't very suited for handheld gaming on Switch and the game lacks Chronicle Saviours content.

A great port of a great title that's well worth the investment on Switch, on PS4 however unless you are a Darius superfan you'd be better served with a copy of Chronicle Saviours.

I reviewed a compilation of Darius arcade games last year and found that it handled the use of multi-screen gaming better; if Another Chronicle was more in that fashion it would be a bit more comfortable to play. Still, it's another solid shooter in a system that's chock-a-block with them.

Dariusburst: Another Chronicle EX+ is a fantastic shoot 'em up with one of the most satisfying mechanics in the genre; F-Burst. On the other hand, I can't help but wish it received the same treatment as the far-superior Chronicle Saviours.

Dariusburst: Another Chronicle EX+ is a lot of fun to play in the moment. While I don’t love every design choice the development team made, I completely see what so many fans love about it. This Switch port, however, is a cheap one, not doing a great job of utilizing the platform or providing the sort of content expected of a home port. If you’re desperate for more Darius on your Switch, it’s not a bad option. With two different Darius collections releasing last year, however (One for the series’ arcade history, another for its console history), and with Darius Cozmic Revelation on the way, which will include this title and a remaster of the excellent G-Darius, there may be better options for you to enjoy killing robot fish on the go.

In fact, since this variant focuses on the arcade experience, rather than the original console stuff CS introduced, that means you don’t even have the ability to play 16:9 formatted stages, making the lack of any visual options even more frustrating. Still, with four player co-op, a variety of great ships, and the same great Darius fun to expect from the series, this manages to be a very fun romp for scorechasing and boss rush fanatics, even if it doesn’t have much else for casual players just wanting to reach the credits and call it a day, though it at least leads to being an accessible entry point for co-op action, and is a game I can definitely recommend to people with access to a four-player setup, especially since you can’t really play the arcade game in person here in the US.

Dariusburst: Another Chronicle Ex + is a solid port of the arcade title. It’s never easy to convert an arcade game of this magnitude onto Switch or TV but the developers have done a decent job in its translation to the home system. It’s also one of the more affordable titles in the series so if you have been wanting to see what all the fuss is about this may be a good game to start with. A great arcade game to enjoy alone, with friends or even on those weekends away fishing. Just try not to cast your Switch into the lake by accident.

Dariusburst: Another Chronicle EX+ may be just an HD port, and still lack a weighty novelty that justifies its release, but it still proves to be a lot of fun and a nice invitation for those who want to know the franchise. The challenge is high without being unfair and being able to play with four other players makes it even more enjoyable. The display layout still plays a bit against those who are very attached to the dimensions of the screen as a whole, but still, if you like a good old Shoot 'em up , this game needs to be in your library.

Darius Burst Another Chronicles EX+ is a challenging and fun shoot-em-up; a must-play, I dare say. But personally, I saw monstrous red warning signs and heard boss sirens when I saw the price tag. This stand-alone may be a must-have for collectors, but The Cozmic Revelation collection seems to be the best way to experience Darius. If the series wants to make a splash, hopefully, we get a new entry.

Dariusburst: Another Chronicle EX+ is a good bullet hell shooter, but one that doesn’t reinvent the wheel nor justify its pretty steep price tag. It’s yet another remaster/make/boot/vision of a PSP game which might be entertaining for fans of the genre, but suffers from a few glaring issues such as tons of recycled enemies with a different color palette and really bizarre 32:9 aspect ratio.

Dariusburst Another Chronicle Ex + is presented to us in its even more definitive edition, with even more stages and final bosses. For those looking for a great story, they will find that this title is very "arcade", just like the games of the 80s / 90s. Smooth and colorful graphics, a great soundtrack, as well as good times of fun. Without a doubt, a real gem for lovers of Martian killers and fast games without much to think about and wanting to have a good time without complications. Special mention to 4 coop multiplayer mode!
