Nintendo Switch Sports is a fun sequel that does online right. Those looking for that throwback Wii Sports feel with solid online play will fit right at home. It's great with friends and family in the living-room, too. The main drawback, however, is the lack of content - Golf being absent at launch and returning sports. Nintendo Switch Sports is a solid start, with that familiar feel and the potential to add more content in the future.

Frustrations aside, there’s plenty of fun to be had in Nintendo Switch Sports, no matter how you choose to play. It’s a valiant nod back to Wii Sports, slightly more grown-up and refined this time around. Perhaps it’s not quite as fun – though maybe that’s just because we’re older and more world-weary than we were back in 2006 – but it’ll undoubtedly still be a game to pull out at any family gathering. It’s just a shame that earning new cosmetic items is locked to online play.

Switch Sports will be adding golf in a future update, so there will be more than the six sports available on launch day in the future. While the online could sway the eventual review score one way or the other, I'm extremely positive on Switch Sports and look forward to playing it more with friends and family locally as well hopping online and unlocking new gear and equipment and trying to join the Pro Leagues. We'll be back soon with a final verdict on Nintendo Switch Sports.

Besides the absences of baseball and boxing, the six sports on show here are smooth, responsive, and fun. While Nintendo Switch Sports could do more for the players that play solo, the game is at its best when you play locally with friends.

Nintendo Switch Sports shows that the company still knows how to make simple but extremely satisfying experiences intended for everyone. The simplified representation works wonders for old and new sports, and the controls are easy enough that anyone can become good at their favorites in no time. Solo players who don't go online will be disappointed at the lack of content, but those looking to play against others either locally or online will have a blast. Be sure you're a Nintendo Switch Online subscriber if you want to squeeze the most out of those unlocks.

Nintendo Switch Sports is a great way to satisfy any urge to play motion control games. Unfortunately, it doesn't make any effort at being more than that.

Despite the prospect of fun multiplayer moments, there's just too little content in Nintendo Switch Sports, and the minigames that it does offer have been done better elsewhere in Nintendo's own library.

Nintendo Switch Sports will exhaust all fans of previous installments of the series, because new sports offer a lot of pleasant gameplay, and well-known competitions again do not disappoint. Gameplay rewards a lot, but in terms of content – I was hoping for more.

Switch Sports is a game that everyone in your family can play. Seeking more may even be unfair to this game.

Nintendo Switch Sports is a worthy successor to Wii Sports. With lovely new character models, a solid collection of sports, plenty of multiplayer modes, and a fun-filled atmosphere, you'll enjoy competing with chums and chums-to-be alike.

Each sport in Nintendo Switch Sports is enjoyable and uniquely developed. Just like its predecessors, is this a perfect game to play at parties because of the easy-to-master controls. If you're planning to play by yourself I wouldn't recommend this game, because it will feel more like a tech demo instead of an actual videogame. The new Sports Mates also lack the charming characteristics of the Mii characters, so each match will feel like you’re playing against the same boring robot over and over again.

Nintendo Switch Sports is definitely another amazing game to hit the Switch’s vast library — even though it might leave some people still hoping for more.

Nintendo Switch Sports is an admirable attempt to fill the void left by the Wii Sports series, but a lack of offline progression and small selection of sports means it doesn't quite reach those heights.

All in, a wonderful title that brings back a lot of memories for those of us who have been gaming for a while, while creating a whole new ‘this is cool’ feel for newcomers. Either way, it brings friends and family together and will spark as many laughs in your living room as frustrated yelps when you’re beaten into submission by a five-year-old.

Nintendo Switch Sports is already born as a Switch classic. Whether for its classic sports or its fun new features, the title enchants and promises even some free updates for the near future. With such a family-friendly game in a genre already so dominated by Nintendo, it's hard to understand how it appeared on the hybrid console just now, five years after its release. Now, at least, we'll be able to retire our Wii at family lunches.

While Switch Sports' liberal difficulty levels help it seem more approachable than its predecessors, having additional methods to customize the experience would go a long way in this case as well. Nintendo Switch Sports is undoubtedly a worthy successor, but it doesn't come for free because of how quickly the world has evolved since Wii Sports.

Nintendo Switch Sports really is a game of two halves. Offline the game is sorely lacking in features but may still be enough for 'casual' families looking for some simple fun. Solo players, however, will want to head online, which is where the game's progression system (and its real longevity) can be found.

With a good selection of sports and robust motion controls that just work, Nintendo Switch Sports has everything to become an all-star, that is, if the online play holds up to the modern standards.

While some new aspects feel undercooked and the online multiplayer's reward economy feels imbalanced, Nintendo Switch Sports still has that undeniable charm and endless replayability that we remember.
