Supreme playability is sidetracked by a new mode designed to let players live the gilded life of an F1 driver – and start paying for it

Codemasters have dutifully updated their F1 template with the new car designs and the up to date roster of circuits whilst ditching the Story Mode for an entirely unrelated and pointless avatar clothes shop featuring microtransactions. While the racing itself remains superb, there's an increasingly hollow corporate veneer which undermines the core of the well-crafted game engine. I'd be inclined to stick with F1 2021 until the nouveau riche supercars and furnishings are jettisoned for 2023.

The title clearly manages to… step up to the podium, but doesn't go the extra mile (that it could) to take the top spot.

Driving the new edition of F1 is still a great experience, but it didn't come with significantly new and better content, so don't expect too much.

Given all that, F1 22 feels more like a pit stop than a podium finish. “F1 Life” is simply uninspiring and supercars feel out of place. Codemasters is seemingly laying the groundwork for future titles with this game. But in itself, the game needed more content.

The gaming equivalent of being asked to buy the paint protection.

Built on the foundations of several fantastic games, and those qualities remain – but you already own them. F1 22 simply doesn't offer enough for a full-price purchase.

F1 22 is a flawed entry that has been tainted by its desperation to seemingly appeal to casual players. Even so, the driving mechanics carry the game, and it still manages to be a fun racing experience. Against all of the odds, F1 22 pulled through and is something worth playing.

Overall, F1 22 is another high quality simulation of the motorsport, with great handling and detailed, engrossing career modes. While the presentation is strong and the game generally looks and sounds great, some aspects like character models just aren't quite where they should be, and F1 Life doesn't add all that much to the experience. We encountered more bugs than expected, too, although we expect patches will iron those out in due course. It's got it where it really counts, then, but some extra polish would put it higher on the grid.

F1 22 is like a slice of birthday cake a couple days after the party. Someone (probably your dad) has pinched the glacé cherry from the cream splodge on top of your Black Forest Gateau, but your mum's put some regular cherries, banana and apple slices on the plate to it to make up for it. The fruit doesn't make sense, but the cake's still pretty good. Still, you're left dreaming of what next year's cake will be like. Maybe your cake engineer will be smart enough by then to actually know who you're racing against, and maybe Will Buxton will get some new jeans that don't look like they've carved out of stone. Maybe it'll be a carrot cake.

F1 22 is an iterative entry in the F1 series that focuses heavily on an authentic recreation of a new era in the sport, with fantastic results on the track.

F1 2022 does not represent the game that upends the saga but reconfirms almost all the strengths that made the fortunes of the previous chapters while also adding a few new features. Inexplicable instead is the removal of Breaking Point and the addition of the almost useless F1 Life. We do, however, find support for 120 fps and the use of DualSense's adaptive triggers truly incredible. We therefore consider F1 2022 a must-have for first-minute fans.

The game didn't evolve much which is expected for an annual release but still disappointing, but if you can look past that, there aren't many racing games as faithful and realistic as F1 22, its deep career mode is married with a great driving experience, and there are enough options to customize the experience to your liking; making it as difficult or forgiving as you wish it to be.

Codemasters took the successful formula of the previous F1 games and prepared another fun new version of the series with as few changes as possible. F1 22, although it is a repetition of the past, but it shows the best repetition. The game has issues with incentive content, car variety, and challenge variety, but ultimately, it is just what a racing simulator fan wants.

A fine entry to the popular F1 series, F1 22 brings some new things to the table, but suffers from control issues and a lack of things to do.

In summary, if you are going to buy F1 you should keep in mind that this is not a delivery that innovates in any way. Nothing beyond having an improvement in the controls. Honestly, I would recommend waiting for a later discount to be able to play this installment of the franchise that it should seriously consider if it want to take a real step forward next year.

F1 22 has a lot of under-the-hood improvements that might not be obvious at first. Driving remains satisfying, engaging, and adaptable. While the AI is aggressive, it will likely add to your race experience. The game’s presentation remains impeccable and truly reflects authentic F1 coverage. There’s a ton of content to enjoy that will satiate F1 and racing fans. But its aging graphics and a lackluster F1 Life show that an overhaul is overdue.

F1 2022 is back in full force and promises to occupy the hearts of single-seater fans, less good note for the F1 life mode that adds little and for the absence of f3 and historic cars. In the end it's a few French fries in need of ketchup and a little too much salt!

F1 22 can fall back on a solid foundation that Codemasters has further developed. The career modes are like a house and there is also plenty to do online. With the new options, a Grand Prix also feels a bit more realistic, especially if you put on VR glasses. So F1 22 is certainly not the revolution players might have hoped for, but for Formula 1 fans there's plenty to keep you entertained this year.‎
