Steelrising offers a unique take on the French Revolutionas you assume the role of the Aegis hacking and slashing her way through a Paris besieged by an army of Automatons. While its developer, Spiders, does offer a unique twist on the Souls-like formula by tweaking the stamina mechanic and a focused narrative, it's clearly a game made on a budget. I personally had a lot of fun but I must admit that it has some issues like broken audio, textures and objects popping in and out, repetitive environments and it just becomes too easy by the end of the game.

Steelrising is a manual soulslike, which implements every characteristic of the genre correctly and without taking big risks. Its history and development are one of its greatest attractions, and its graphic section is diminished by average production values that, without being bad at all, had potential thanks to a top artistic section. Despite the lack of final polish, this is a remarkable game and players who enjoy Dark Souls-style games will enjoy joining Aegis in the French Revolution.

Steelrising is a mediocre game just like Spider's previous works. Although subtle innovations in combat make dull combat a bit more fun, the linear map design with bad side quests still make the gameplay experience boring. But then again, Spider's courage is admirable, and its game production ability has obviously improved a lot, but there is still a certain gap between Steelrising and other excellent souls-like games

With a bigger budget and a lot more polishing, things in Steelrising might have been a lot better.

It is certain that the game creates an eye-catching mood by infusing 18th-century French Revolution and Automata into Souls-like gameplay. The game well supplemented its organized action and growth gimmicks for those who are not well aware of Souls-like games. However, you will eventually notice that the game is far from perfection when there are frequent frame drops, bugs and some loopholes that are hard to see in other Souls-like games.

Steelrising has an interesting take on the French Revolution, but it really has nothing new to offer to soulslikes' lovers, expect for the difficulty selection.

Steelrising is a good if challenging time. If you’re thirsting for your next Souls-like after milking Elden Ring dry, then the combat here will feel oddly familiar and you’re sure to find something to enjoy, but it isn’t without its faults. Overall Steelrising hits way more than it misses, but a forgettable story and a few repetitive boss battles hold it back from achieving true greatness.

Steelrising tries its best to become a unique game amongst soulslike games, but it fails rather horribly. Although some new mechanis are interesting, overall Combat is completely unbalanced. Story had some good potential, but they are never being used properly. At best, Steelrising is a mediocre Soulslike with many issues.

I thought this game was okay, but this is not my favourite genre to play. I appreciate the story-telling and dealt with the increasingly harsh combat, but the pacing is slow, the graphics are rough and the overall feel of the game is sluggish and laboured in my opinion. If it had been an open-world style adventure with stealth elements and more freedom of movement, I feel that this title could have flourished and appealed to more fans the world over, however, the decision to be a souls clone may be SteelRising's downfall.

It’s a bit janky and it has some questionable design choices, but Steelrising is yet another pretty good effort from Spiders, solidifying the small French studio as one of the most interesting developers in the industry nowadays. Its absolutely unique premise, mixing the freaking French Revolution with robots and Dark Souls, is the main reason you’ll want to play it. Even though it has some progression and level design issues, as well as a bit of AA jank, it’s still well worth your time.

This game is the newest entry in the extremely popular Soulslike genre, but Steelrising simply doesn’t feel all that fun to play.

Steelrising feels like any other Spiders' game. It has intriguing setting, memorable cast of characters and fun combat mechanics. But overall lack of variety and poor exploration make experience incomplete.

Steelrising neither reaches the heights of the best Souls-likes nor sinks to the lows of the genre's worst, and it can't hide its flaws with next-gen shine.

Steelrising is not a bad attempt to become one of the more prominent acts in the Soulslike genre. The game attracts attention primarily with the chosen historical epoch with real French personalities of the time, which it makes special with machines and automatons. Basically, Steelrising delivers what fans expect from this type of game and manages to appeal to them, even if it doesn't become an icon like Dark Souls or Elden Ring.

The visual spectacle, creative setting and mechanical intrigue of Steelrising are never quite able to justify its shortcomings in challenge and consistency. It’s an inspiring experience that I had a good time with more often than not, but it certainly pales if you’re already familiar with the paragons of the genre. That said, rubbing elbows with French revolutionaries made for an entertaining interlude between bouts of robot vs. robot combat, and I can’t deny how glad I was to experience that.

"Steelrising" is like "Greedfall" a very positive surprise. Spiders has once again managed to put its own stamp on a very highly competitive genre. The balance of the game could certainly still be tightened, and the areas are not as impressive as we would have liked. The bottom line, however, is that "Steelrising" is one of the best Western interpretations of the "Souls" series and brings a breath of fresh air into a very rigid formula not only with a fascinating setting, but also with new elements in combat and exploration.

Undoubtedly another quality entry in the Soulslike lineage, not only drawing on inspiration, but also straying from the familiar path to chart its own image. Even with any flaws that arise, Steelrising is a product that Spiders should be proud of.
