Great family friendly game that's a leg up from the average indie game, and room to improve.

Kukoos: Lost Pets is a 3D platformer in which you enter different universes to save pets that have gone rogue. In these universes, you have to tackle obstacles and puzzles to collect enough "fwendly" plants and coins, and to save enough pets. This game is made for anyone, and is exciting and fun.

PetitFabrik's Amazonian creators did a good job with Kukoos: Lost Pets, delivering beautiful and pleasant visuals, charismatic characters and varied gameplay mechanics in an attractive 3D world. Even with small issues, it's a beautiful addition to the studio's portfolio, and it's worth checking this Brazilian title out.

Kukoos: Lost Pets has some fun platforming ideas, but gameplay issues, boring boss fights and annoying sound effects make it tough to recommend

Kukoos lost pets harkens back to a time when 3D mascot platformers were the bees knees. While it has some rough spots and doesn’t reinvent or revolutionize the genre, the game boasts some solid and, at times, challenging platforming. Add some fun boss fights, four-player multiplayer and an affordable price and you have a game that lovers of old-school platforming just might go cuckoo for.

Featuring an experience that drips with more quality than is usually expected when it comes to indie games, Kukoos: Lost Pets could benefit from an improved camera, but as it is this is a marvelous and very welcome addition to the Nintendo Switch catalogue.

Kukoos Lost Pets is a short platforming adventure that harkens back to the old days. There isn’t a whole lot of content. In fact, you can easily finish the game in an afternoon. Maybe two afternoons if you’re intent on collecting every coin, flower, and rescuing a pet. A few extra features would have gone a long way to build on the game’s foundation. Using coins to unlock cosmetic options for your character and pets would have been nice. But then again, there’s no real value in sticking around after the story is over unless you’re looking for that Platinum trophy.

It’s not going to redefine what it means to be a 3D platformer, but Kukoos: Lost Pets is a pleasant enough addition that fans of the genre will enjoy. Bright and colourful, and with a nice mixture of collecting, platforming and puzzles, there’s plenty here to keep you invested. It’s just a shame that co-op is held back by some technical issues and its visuals aren’t quite as sharp as they ought to be.

While absolutely a family-friendly 3D platformer, that can also be played co-op, some issues hold it back

It's not the most accomplished platformer available on the market, but Kukoos: Lost Pets has that magical formula of generally decent platforming, co-op play and impressive presentation that could make it a favorite this festive season.

Kukoos: Lost Pets is cute, charismatic, fun and challenging. Not everything is as simple or obvious as it seems, and sometimes it will be necessary to take some time away from the game to recover that thirst for a new attempt after so many failures or even to start a new level. It can be a little tiring and not give you that urge to play until you complete it.

Despite a few easily fixable issues that I foresee being patched in the near future, Kukoos: Lost Pets is an adorable little 3D platformer that will easily entertain young and old alike. I could see this being a family favorite, with parents and kids each grabbing a controller to cooperatively save every last pet, pluck every last fwendly plant, and beat every last boss together. Kukoos: Lost Pets may look simple, but its puzzle elements provide some perplexing moments that’ll satisfy veterans for a weekend and newcomers for much, much longer. If you’re looking for something that’s cute on the surface but a little more complex in its core, the island of Kukoos: Lost Pets beckons.

Kukoos: Lost Pets is the sort of game I would have jumped on back when the genre was in decline. It might not have the staying power of the icons in its genre, but it has some fun ideas. Fans of 3D platformers should consider it, although its short length and rougher aspects might turn some players away.

Kukoos: Lost Pets is a mixed experience. It's a pleasant, fun and dynamic game when its imprecise movement and bugs aren't annoying [the players]. Nothing makes it unplayable but the occurrences hinder the enjoyment of what the game has to offer and may demand patience. It's a shame because Petit Fabrik's title is a well-made game that doesn't reinvent the formula but justifies its existence as a 3D platformer that can be enjoyed alone or with others, especially children.

When Kukoos gives you a good gimmick to focus your platforming skill on or puts them on the back burner entirely for its main mechanics, it’s a good, gorgeous time. Unfortunately, glitches, strange difficulty spikes, and an over-focus on these pets end up holding it back from being more than a pretty face.

With terrible, nigh-unplayable gameplay, a story that could generously be called "so bad it's good", and uninspired art direction, Kukoos: Lost Pets is an ugly slog of a game, fit for "Worst of the Year" accolades. These pets should be put to sleep.

Kukoos: Lost Pets is a fantastic 3D platformer that uses its environmental designs. Vibrant in style and fantastic in gameplay, Kukoos: Lost Pets is a joy I didn’t expect from 2022, and I wish I had played it while in Early Access.
