The Metal Gear Master Collection Vol.1 is nothing but the ultimate compilation for all fans of the franchise.

Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 could have been up there with the best retro collections published in the last few years, however, Konami has shown that all they care about by releasing a quick cash grab with no decent extras or even the best versions of the games included in the collection. Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 is an example of how NOT to treat beloved franchises that could still draw money by the name value alone… I hope Silent Hill isn't next.

Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 does precisely what it claims to do - bring the first three Metal Gear Solid games to all major platforms after a much-felt absence. While the technical updates given to each game are scarce, this still represents a great way to get into one of the most important and prolific series in video games. Could there be some more touch-ups to modernise these games? Absolutely. But it's hard to ignore the quality of the games included in this package, and it's a testament to their strengths that, even with slight improvement, they're still as compelling as ever.

Here, the question isn't whether or not Kojima's works are good, it's if Konami should have repackaged them. Again. I'd argue not. Or at least, I'd argue not in this fashion.

Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 brings three classic stealth action games to a modern generation of players, and along with it, brings a host of goodies and books that are quite fun to dig through. The extra gameplay goodies, like different versions of classical games, are also fantastic additions.

Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Volume 1 is a poorly handled emulation of some truly fantastic games. Its baffling that they got handled this poorly, and I hope we see some fixes soon.

The Master Collection Vol. 1 is a gem for its contents – with some of the most important and genre-defining video games ever – but feels like a lazy porting that made nothing to make those games shine even more.

Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol.1 brings to the PC platform the most influential titles of all time. However, in doing so it not only doesn't try to change anything but also hides behind the excuse that they don't want to disrupt the original vision of the creators. And it is a shame because it would have taken so little to have the ultimate way to play the Metal Gear Solid trilogy on modern platforms

This review and its respective rating have nothing to do with the video games found in this collection. Those already have their place in history and some are enshrined among the best video games ever created. From this perspective, Konami didn't deliver garbage, but it also didn't exploit the potential and opportunity there was to deliver a high-quality homage to its once-star franchise. However, the essence of Metal Gear remains intact and its high points are good enough to consider it in your library, maybe not today, but at some point.

With that being said, the original Metal Gear Solid trilogy isn’t just a trio of great games that people have strong nostalgia for. They’re genuine masterpieces and deserve to be preserved into perpetuity. This collection is a perfectly adequate way of preserving them for this hardware cycle.

Quality wise this might not be that different from playing the first part and the HD Collecting on PS3, but as a rich celebration there are enough trinkets to make it a must-own for collectors.

The games are good, MGS is good, the package is not bad... Visually, if they had a little makeover, it could have been perfect...

METAL GEAR SOLID: Master Collection Vol.1 includes some of the most groundbreaking video games ever made so even if the featured ports aren't all that special, you still get one awesome package and the extras are quite lovely to boot. ❕

Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 is a robust collection that offers a lot to the fans of the series. It includes a wide variety of games and bonus content, making it a great value for money. However, it does have its flaws, such as camera issues and slight hitches in the games. Despite these issues, the collection is an excellent way to experience the iconic game series. It’s a must-have for any fan of the Metal Gear Solid series.

I still like that this Master Collection exists, despite its flaws. It's definitely a time-capsule and if you are hungry to experience the brilliant stealth-action saga on modern consoles, you will find much to love. But you still have to remember that this is just a re-release and what was good back then in terms of controls, might feel rather alien nowadays.

The Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection’s package is impressive, especially when you consider the amount of content you get for the price. The developers could have taken a leaf out of Nintendo’s book and created a 3D All-Stars-type collection with just the games and called it a day, but to their credit, Konami has crammed a lot of stuff into the collection to keep you busy for days. While there are no graphical improvements, they run fine as long as expectations are adjusted accordingly. If you have no way to play any of these games or would like to experience the Metal Gear series for the first time, I absolutely recommend Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol 1. If you already own the originals or the HD Collection, your money is probably best saved for the inevitable remakes.

Metal Gear Solid Vol. 1 Master Collection slips into a game library like a good old book at home. It's necessary, even essential, to ensure that the great titles of the last few decades are still playable today.
