"The desire for [a new] Goemon is easily filled by BAKERU. It doesn't reach all the notes of the inspiring franchise, but it's an excellent pick. Small mistakes that can be easily fixed aren't a huge issue when the whole thing is worth it. It took a while but Bakeru came to the world, drumming and blasting through everything in his way."

BAKERU is a charming, inspired game that’s unfortunately dragged pretty far down by its framerate issues. When working at its best, it’s an especially fun integration of culture and fun platforming mechanics. While it’s let down somewhat by a number of gameplay features feeling underutilized, I ultimately thought what I played was a fun time… But it bears repeating that this is mainly when its technical issues aren’t getting in the way of that enjoyment. I would definitely recommend this game, but maybe wait for a patch or two first.

BAKERU is an excellent adventure platformer plucked from a previous generation and made for a modern audience.
With a bunch of neat levels and charismatic themes, as well as fun boss battles that require you to parry like a champ, right down to the smooth and tight controls, Bakeru is a fun 3D throwback ride for those who yearn for a 2000s-esque style challenge and colourful ride through a fantastical & cheery-looking Japan. Some levels do feel a bit samey and can get pretty easy half the time, but Bakeru doesn't wear out its welcome with padding and will entertain you hours on end with its bright demeanour and tribute to Japan.
Bakeru is a rather unique title that showcases Japan and its culture in a colorful and exciting way that would appeal to anyone. If you’re a fan of Mystical Ninja Goemon, Japanese mythology, or just distinct games in general, then Bakeru is worth your time and attention.
