Tiebreak: The Official game of the ATP and WTA appears to be a competitor to Top Spin, but it is well behind. At least for now...

A Djokovic-centric tennis simulator that's easy to pick up but lacks the polish and tactical complexity needed to make it great.

On the outside, Tiebreaker looks impressive with its plentiful roster blossoming with talent, a dedication towards providing the most authentic tennis game experience, and a presentation that wraps you up into the star-studded allure of a tennis icon. However, it all starts to unravel when you actually play it with its frustrating physics, its lack of non-generic modes, and the overall feeling it's just another me-too tennis game. Forget a tie-break, this one couldn't tie Novac Djokovic's ASIC's, which isn't the kind of impression that a new tennis game contender would want to make, yet Tiebreaker sadly fails to be anything more than just another pretender to Top Spin's crown.

A successful tennis player who finally has a chance to make contact with the greats of the genre. Maybe she won't fight for a Grand Slam yet, but it's clear that she's gradually moving towards it.

Top Spin from 2k is no longer the only representative of its kind, and the calm surface of tennis waters is about to be disturbed by Tiebreak produced by Big Ant Games. Despite some shortcomings, you will enjoy tennis in the game.

Tiebreak: The Official Game of the ATP and WTA is, in essence, an acceptable game that appropriates old mechanics with some interesting touches. But everything else, such as a simplistic career mode, a broken online system, serious technical problems and a terrible AI prevent the game, even with respectful licensing, from being minimally profitable.

That data is out there and I am entirely confident that Big Ant could develop this capability, given how well they’ve done every other part of the sport of Tennis with Tiebreak. None of this is even a criticism of Tiebreak, since none of the other tennis games have been any better at it. In every key battleground that there is, Tiebreak comes out firmly on top. My hope to see it have a little more on-court personality and make each of those characters a memorable match is really just a wishlist item for the future.

On the surface Tiebreak: Official Game of the ATP & WTA is a well constructed and playable Tennis title, but often its mechanics had me feeling a bit frustrated. It felt more simplistic to get to grips with than Top Spin 2K25, but the mechanics and AI become infuriating to deal with at times. If you’re looking for a Tennis title though that has the largest roster available with accurate atmosphere and feel of the real sport though, this one might be for you. But in my opinion it does fall short in terms of gameplay and modes despite its excellent presentation. I do hope Big Ant Studios return next year though with some refreshed mechanics to compliment its sterling work everywhere else.

TIEBREAK launches on the market with an excellent roster and really solid gameplay. Unfortunately, some issues, especially regarding the lack of content, highlight that the game wasn’t quite ready to leave Early Access. Today, TIEBREAK is 'just' a fun game that may only entertain you for a short time. However, the foundation is solid, and if Big Ant Studios can complete the work in the coming months, the numerical rating accompanying this review could rise by half a point. Will the studio manage to win this tie-break?

TIEBREAK: Official Game of the ATP and WTA represents a significant advancement in tennis gaming, thanks to its detailed graphics and official ATP and WTA licenses, which offer a rich roster of athletes and tournaments. The gameplay, a balance between simulation and arcade, engages players with a strategic and rewarding experience. However, the title suffers from technical problems. Stiff animations and sound bugs compromise its fluidity, while the online mode is limited by sparsely populated servers and latency issues, reducing the competitive experience. Despite these critical issues, TIEBREAK has the potential to become a reference simulation. If Big Ant Studios fixes the flaws with future updates, the game could establish itself in the genre. At the moment, however, it remains promising but still far from rivaling established titles such as Top Spin.

The licenses and the extensive roster of athletes are a plus, but the sensitivity of the controls and the depth of the movements delivered can cause despair.
