Marvel’s Wolverine is an intense, brutal and visually stunning adventure that proves Insomniac Games is capable of offering something completely different from the Spider-Man stories. The combat is hugely satisfying, and the story makes good use of Logan and his relationships with other heroes, although the linear structure and the repetitive nature of the fights mean that after around 12 hours, it’s hard to find many reasons to carry on playing. This isn’t a Spider-Man with claws, but a full-fledged Wolverine adventure – gritty, bloody and exactly what this hero needed.

Marvel's Wolverine is a good game featuring the beloved mutant. The story is enjoyable and deviates somewhat from expectations. The gameplay offers combat without many surprises, with a cool fighting system (despite some issues) and is slightly deep thanks to the upgrades. The biggest problem is that the game doesn't offer much variety and has a short duration.

Marvel’s Wolverine is a breath of fresh air from the slew of open-world games Sony has released over the past few years. While it’s not as ambitious in scale as the Spider-Man games, its linear direction puts the spotlight on Logan and his story. Its brutal combat kept me entertained throughout my 17-hour playthrough, including one stretch where I played for 12 hours straight. Insomniac delivered the Wolverine game I’ve been waiting for — brutal, bloody, emotional, and unapologetically Logan. By the time the credits rolled, I was already left wanting more.
Insomniac never disappoints when it comes to superheroes. Their take on Wolverine isn't afraid to get his claws dirty, and he proves that through a highly responsive, bloody, and visceral combat system. The limited side content and a few pacing issues in the story don't detract from Logan's strong solo debut in PS5.

Sometimes, all you need is a few hours of pure action, characters you care about, a healthy dose of violence, and a protagonist with adamantium claws tearing through everything in his path. Marvel’s Wolverine makes a first impression that’s hard to ignore. Logan is fast, brutal, violent, and is set in a visual production that often seems to want to show off the PS5’s capabilities. For a few hours, I bought into all of that easily. The weariness came as I realized that a good part of the campaign would continue to rely on the same solutions. New enemies appear, Techniques and Adaptations increase the repertoire, and some sequences try to change the pace, but the game constantly returns to the same place: another arena, another wave of enemies, another overly long health bar. This repetition also tainted parts that should have had more impact.

Marvel's Wolverine impresses with its sheer brutality and its visually convincing portrayal of what it must feel like to be Wolverine. The fights are bloody, the presentation looks fantastic, and especially the movement and Wolverine's claws do a great job in some moments of making you feel like you're actually controlling the famous mutant. Unfortunately, beyond that, the game doesn't really go much further than generic combat sequences, repetitive enemies, and a story that is stretched out far too long. The genuinely interesting premise surrounding Wolverine's past, Team X, and the mutants is only partially explored. Those who simply want to spend some time playing as Wolverine, tearing through one scene after another, and who primarily value brutal action will have some fun with it to a certain extent. However, anyone expecting a deep Wolverine story, varied gameplay, or a stronger use of the X-Men universe is likely to be disappointed. For everyone else, the best advice is to wait a little longer and pick it up once the price has been significantly reduced.

Marvel’s Wolverine is a game that dares to show Wolverine’s brutality. It’s raw, intense and built around systems that finally do Logan justice. The combination of Techniques, Adaptations and Rage makes the combat feel deep and immersive. At times, you really do have to think things through rather than just mashing buttons. Insomniac has delivered an action game that’s not only spectacular but also a tribute to a tormented superhero. It’s a game you absolutely must play, it’s just a shame that so many other brilliant games are coming out right now.

'Marvel's Wolverine' is a game with clear strengths and weaknesses. Despite its shortcomings, its bloody, visceral combat delivers an intense sense of catharsis. However, the repetition of familiar patterns and the lack of boss fights eventually dull even that satisfying action. I have completed Marvel’s Wolverine within every inch of its life. 32 hours total playtime. Platinum Trophy obtained. This is a fantastic game and I absolutely adored it… to a point. After Insomniac Games’ triumph with the Spider-Man series, expectations were very high for its next major project. And while Marvel’s Wolverine is an incredible title and absolutely worth your time, it doesn’t quite hit the same peaks. But that doesn’t mean Logan’s first Insomniac adventure isn’t something special.
Marvel’s Wolverine is, quite literally, a cinematic action game. Rather than following the open-world formula Insomniac has used in many of its previous titles, it adopts a more linear, stage-based structure, allowing the story to feel much more focused and tightly paced. It does an especially good job of portraying Wolverine’s human struggles, the burden of living as someone who cannot die, and his sense of responsibility as a hero. It is also interesting to see various elements inspired by Wolverine comics and films reinterpreted specifically for the game. That said, the game has some significant shortcomings as well. There is undeniable satisfaction in brutally tearing through enemies, and the combat does a great job of making you feel like Wolverine. However, the lack of additional content and the repetitive structure eventually cause even its violent combat to become monotonous at times. Even so, Insomniac once again demonstrates its talent for portraying superheroes, and there is plenty here for Wolverine fans to enjoy. If you are curious about the game, it is still easy to recommend giving it a try.

Marvel’s Wolverine is the definition of all killer, no filler. The game’s visceral and expressive combat system oozes with Logan’s trademark aggressive ferocity, and paired with deeply moving and layered character work the Wolverine has never felt sharper. Gorgeous presentation, a comic-book like structure, and fantastic writing help round out Insomniac’s best superhero outing in years, even when the story takes a stumble. Marvel’s Wolverine equally understands the heart beneath the claws, and in that balancing act it proves itself as the best there is.
The game delivers the definitive Wolverine gaming experience, combining brutal action with a genuine understanding of what makes Logan such an enduring character. For Wolverine fans, picking this one up is an easy choice, but even people who aren't into X-Men may want to give this game a go.
As different as "Marvel's Wolverine" is compared to Insomniac's "Spider-Man" games, it meets them on equal footing – and that's really saying something!
