Amerzone - The Explorer's Legacy is a very successful update of a cult title from 1999. The influence of Belgian Benoît Sokal, creator of works such as Syberia, is more than evident. The story grips from the first moment, with an involving narrative full of mysteries, interesting characters and a background marked by melancholy and tragedy.

Amerzone: The Explorer’s Legacy is a remarkable game. And thanks to the remake, it offers people like myself a chance to play what the developers originally envisioned for it to look like. Even when playing the easier mode, the game doesn’t hand-hold you, I hadn’t realized that I only used one hint during my whole play through. Amerzone’s story pacing doesn’t feel rushed, letting the player time to enjoy exploring and immerse themselves. Put simply the game has an intriguing story, delightful gameplay and amazing overhaul in visual/graphical detail. I’m giving Amerzone: The Explorer’s Legacy the Thumb Culture Platinum Award. You shouldn’t miss out on this gem!

Amerzone – The Explorer’s Legacy is the kind of game that probably would never have gotten a remake if Microids wasn’t still around and had people on staff who worked with Benoît Sokal, and cared deeply about his legacy and of the imaginative and fantastical worlds he created in his games. While this remake is perhaps a bit too faithful to the 1999 original, it nonetheless shows considerable care and respect for its source material, and wants to create a remake worthy of that legacy. Indeed, the remake is dedicated to Sokal and his memory. On this objective, Amerzone is clearly a success.

Amerzone: The Explorer’s Legacy might be the strangest gaming experience I’ve had in a long time. This is a remake of a 1999 first-person point-and-click adventure, and while it vastly improved the visuals of the entire experience, the controls are still stuck in the past.

Amerzone: The Explorer’s Legacy is a faithful remake made with love by people who care for the game and for the legacy of Benoît Sokal. It’s certainly made for people who grew up with the original and might disappoint ones who are used to more complex adventure games. But if you like Amerzone and what it stands for, Amerzone: The Explorer’s Legacy certainly won’t disappoint. Pouring one out for Sokal. May you rest in power.

Point and click adventure puzzle games are definitely not my usual genre of choice. That being said, sometimes it is good to get outside of your comfort ‘Amerzone’. The quality of the writing and presentation in this remake do more than enough to justify giving Amerzone: The Explorer’s Legacy a try. Once you start to unravel the mysteries of the white bird egg, you’ll want to see the story through to its conclusion. As a puzzle game it will keep you guessing with novel conundrums and unorthodox solutions. It does have a bit of that Indiana Jones explorer vibe, just without the action and shooting (which some people may actually prefer).

Amerzone – The Explorer’s Legacy is a game I’ve been waiting for for a long time. In some ways, I’ve been waiting for it since it came out in 1999. I like this trend of old classics being remade. I hope it continues. Also, Microids has been on a roll the last few years, at least when it comes to games in the genres I like. Between Amerzone and the previous year’s Arsene Lupin game and the reimagined Hercule Poirot games, the second of which is expected sometime this year, it is a good time to be a gamer. There’s always a need for good quality adventure games, and Amerzone – The Explorer’s Legacy is precisely that. It has enough to be a proper tribute to an already great game and a great creator, yet it also stands on its own. It’s a gorgeous, well-crafted game with smooth gameplay, no technical hiccups, great puzzles, and a well-crafted in-game world. So, if you love adventure games, you should try Amerzone – The Explorer’s Legacy. You’ll probably love it as much as I did.

Amerzone: The Explorer's Legacy is a faithful remake that enhances the original's strengths while remaining trapped by some of its limitations. The gorgeous presentation and expanded narrative content will make this probably the definitive version for fans of the original and at the same time an engaging experience for players who appreciate slower-paced, storytelling-focused adventures.

Microids has created a good remake from a graphical point of view, managing to expand an adventure that was originally very short. However, the first-person view with static and non-freely explorable scenes is too anachronistic nowadays, as are some puzzles that are too simple. In any case, Amerzone - The Explorer's Legacy has a nice plot, interesting characters and remains a nice tribute to the memory of Benoît Sokal and is a good opportunity to discover his first game, considering the budget price at which it is proposed.
