Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake is a fantastic conclusion to the Erdrick trilogy, given a fresh new look. Itâs a loving and beautifully crafted tribute to the roots of the JRPG genre, successfully modernizing outdated mechanics without losing any of its original charm. Although there are some questionable design choices (especially in the first game) and certain retro elements still feel a bit jarring, the result is enchanting. Thanks to the added content, Dragon Quest II is the clear standout of the bundle and feels like a full-fledged modern retro RPG. For fans of the series and lovers of the genre, itâs a must-play and a wonderful trip back in time. And for modern players, at least youâll get a sense of what we had to endure just to play. After all, no one has ever given us back those hundreds of hours of grinding.

I said it before and Iâll say it again: my hat goes off to the teams behind this remake, considering the source material they had to work with. Itâs a remake done right in almost every sense of the word, staying true to the original but bringing it to modern audiences with modern expectations. But just because the remake aspect is pulled off with such perfection and grace, that doesnât necessarily fix all of the issues that came with design sentiments almost four decades ago. For those looking to get into the series but who are less familiar with old-school RPG fundamentals, you may be left wondering whatâs so special about these games; but if youâre curious about their roots (warts and all), then Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake is truly a superb remake.
Dragon Quest 1+2 HD-2D are two stunning classics with a modern look and feel, featuring thoughtful updates tailored for today's players. Accompanied by an atmospheric soundtrack, you'll quickly lose yourself in both worlds and have a wonderful time filled with adventure, danger, and challenges.

It is a bridge built between two opposing eras, an act of love towards a saga that has shaped the identity of the modern JRPG. The narrative additions make sense, the quality of life is robust, and the HD-2D style achieves surprising maturity.
