Neon Inferno Reviews
While some developers seem to forget this as they are pressured by suits to fill their pockets with money, video games should provide an entertainment experience that is only possible because of the interactivity of their premise, putting the player in the shoes of various personas and entertaining them until the end of their gameplay. If it's the pure essence of the word video game you're looking for, you'll find it in Neon Inferno.

Some of the best 2D artwork ever seen in a video game, married to a spitefully difficult game whose main gameplay gimmick only manages to make it more frustrating to play.

An entertaining retro shooter featuring appealing aesthetics and refined, varied gameplay that is just the right amount of challenging. Those who grew up playing old classics such as Wild Guns, Contra, and Cabal will feel right at home, but they will have to work hard to reach the end credits.

Neon Inferno looks and sounds great, and while it plays well enough, its biggest flaw is leaving you for dead just for trying to take down a foe in the background. It would have been great to see some additional game modes, but as it stands the two-hour campaign and the hardcore difficulty, even played on the game's easiest setting, make it just too hard to recommend.
If you are like me and roll your eyes when another “one of those” is announced, this deserves your attention. The developers have done a great job of mixing the right amount of nostalgia with a core experience worth diving into.

Paired with its stunning visuals, it’s an incredible experience that fans of the genre simply can’t miss.
Pixeltastic 2D cyberpunk run 'n' gun/gallery shooter on PS5
But at the same time a poorly implemented alternate weapon system and badly paced checkpoints prevent Neon Inferno from ever quite hitting the heights it deserves to hit. That being said even with those occasional missteps it is hard not to get caught up in everything Neon Inferno has to offer. This is a beautiful throwback to some of the best of the 16-bit era that achieves something entirely original.
With its fantastic visuals and thrilling gameplay that tasks you with dealing with enemies in both the background and foreground, Neon Inferno is a run-and-gun shooter that's not to be missed.
Arcade legends who cut their teeth on run-and-gun greats shouldn’t hesitate to join the Family for Neon Inferno’s new-school, old-school thrills.
No matter how you play Neon Inferno, you're bound to have a great time thanks to its stellar gameplay and modern retro-inspired aesthetic. 🏍️
Neon Inferno pulls from old-school ideas, splashes them with an ’80s color palette and CRT flair, then tops it all off with a dose of bullet-time spice served at a pace that keeps you chasing “just one more run.” And just when you think you’re done, the game winks and whispers: “Come on, one more round - you know you want to.”

Neon Inferno delivers an experience worthy of classic shooters, but ultimately falters in crucial aspects such as campaign length and performance on the Nintendo console. In the end, those nostalgic for the arcade era and enthusiasts of good, vibrant pixel art will certainly find value here, but it's undeniable that Angelo and Mariana deserved a slightly more polished adventure. Maybe next time?

A short but fierce run-and-gun, Neon Inferno dazzles with retro flair and relentless challenge even if its short length may leave some wanting.
Neon Inferno is certainly a title that fully reflects the legacy of the run ‘n gun of the late ’80s and early ’90s. Plus he has a strong personality and mood. In terms of gameplay the game didn’t do anything new, but it reworks numerous elements creating an interesting and truly satisfying gameplay. The action, the frenzy and the extrication from the bullets with dodges and deviations make the player feel the strength of the characters he controls. The research and care in creating the settings with the pixel art style are truly remarkable. The audio section itself is in line with the arcades of that era with music and songs always on point and spot on. A critical issue may be the brevity of the title. In fact, Neon Inferno bases its replayability on the concept of repeating missions to improve your score. All with an increase in difficulty to the extreme of “one shot one kill”. Although I don’t feel like penalizing the development team’s vision too much, I must tell you that this may be a critical issue for some. For anyone who doesn’t think it’s a big mistake, will find a valid title. Made with awareness, care and respect for the genre.
Neon Inferno is a drop-dead gorgeous shooter with an exhilarating OST backed up by frantic gunplay and fantastic animations. Extra gameplay modes, additional levels, and a balance patch would do wonders to uplift the game.
Beautiful and deadly Neon Inferno is an ode to some of the arcade shooters of old like Contra and Sunset Riders.
Neon Inferno is a game that arcade heads and old-school gamers will absolutely adore.
