Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 tries to do a lot of things. It doesn't all come off but the end result is more game to play. The core elements are all there, and even if you think the campaign is an abomination, you still have PvP and zombies that don't stray as far from the course-just like you had every other year.

Skirmish captures some of the chaos of Battlefield while staying true to the fast-paced foundation that makes Call of Duty so addictive. It’s experimental and nonconformist. If only the rest of Black Ops 7 were as inspired.

With excellent maps, slick and expressive movement, and the superb new Overload mode, Black Ops 7's core multiplayer experience is brilliant. Zombies fans have plenty to sink their teeth into, even if a lot of its modes return from past games. BO7's campaign, however, is its biggest disappointment, and its Endgame experiment mostly falls flat.

Call of Duty Black Ops 7 certainly aimed for an easy victory, but this year's competition is fierce. While it offers abundant content and diverse experiences, excelling at player retention through extensive progression, quantity isn't everything, and its shortcomings are significant. The campaign is poor, the endgame is dull, and the multiplayer mode is conventional. It lacks soul and authenticity. Only the Zombies mode is noteworthy, significantly raising the bar. Overall, it's an average Call of Duty game that will struggle to maintain interest until next year.

We're not yet ready to give a definitive verdict on the game, which will arrive very soon (with a score attached), but we've already begun exploring the shooter's other components, and it's immediately clear that this campaign lacks quality even from the less successful entries in the series.

Whether you're interested in it is, of course, entirely up to you. For me, the Black Ops 7 campaign ultimately falls somewhere between the story modes of the last two years. Significantly better than Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, but also considerably below Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is an incredible feat by all teams involved. There has not been a Call of Duty game yet that has the scope of Black Ops 7, or the interconnected social experience it provides. Every facet of the game, whether Zombies, Multiplayer, Endgame, Dead Ops Arcade 4, or campaign, feels like it was crafted passionately. Outstanding gameplay and progression systems back up a packed title; I’ll be playing BO7 for a very long time. Black Ops 7 is the pinnacle of modern Call of Duty, blending the past with the present in a way that’s worthy of the grind you’ll be putting into it.

Call Of Duty: Black Ops 7 is what we have come to expect from the franchise for better and worse. It just doesn't do enough to set itself apart and recommend at full price, unless you specifically want the game for zombie mode.

Black Ops 7 is, without question, the most disappointed I’ve been in a Call of Duty campaign. It’s not because it’s the least fun, necessarily, it’s because it’s a regression in every field that Black Ops excels—it’s a thoughtless, homogeneous mess that feels more like a Zombies off-shoot that, in an attempt to call back to better games, only serves to cheapen their memory.

Black Ops 7 is a painful proof that even the most talented studio can’t overcome time constraints. Low overall quality of this game is a direct consequence of the publisher’s greed – they are serving a meal that is somewhat enjoyable at first but costs like the most fancy course in a Michelin-starred restaurant.

This should have been Call of Duty's year to step up, especially given Battlefield's resurgence and the success of ARC Raiders. Instead, it limps in last with an experience that barely even feels like a worthwhile expansion.

If Modern Warfare 3 fumbled its campaign directly after Modern Warfare 2, Black Ops 7 completely drops the ball following Black Ops 6. This tactic of rushing out direct sequels isn’t working for Call of Duty. Now all that’s left to ponder is where the franchise goes next after wearing out and devaluing its flagship Modern Warfare and Black Ops series this generation, like Marge Simpson’s tattered Chanel suit.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 presents a gargantuan amount of content meant to satisfy players of all stripes. While the story can't rival last year's roller coaster, Treyarch's masterclass gunplay stretches across numerous modes with unified progression.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 offers predictable but fun multiplayer, interesting additions to its zombies mode, but a single-player/co-op campaign that's tedious and too goofy by far.

So, does Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 have any redeeming features whatsoever? It can't be that bad, surely?

Compared with recent entries, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 actually shows a level of sincerity. The campaign takes a clear step back narratively, but it remains playable and reasonably engaging. Multiplayer is easily the strongest first outing the series has seen in years, while Zombies and the campaign's endgame are serviceable additions that still provide enough long-term pull for PvE fans.

As is tradition, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 offers polished, addictive multiplayer, the best work from Treyarch since Black Ops II. However, the campaign disappoints by removing the traditional single-player experience, replacing it with uninspired co-op missions and a narrative disconnected from the series legacy. Zombies mode is ambitious but overly complex, prioritizing retention over fun. A split package: brilliant in multiplayer, but soulless in its campaign.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 attempts to reclaim the series' lost ground by returning to its storytelling roots, introducing an expansive zombies campaign, and blending classic multiplayer elements with modern systems, but the end result is a strange mix of strengths and, unfortunately, significant weaknesses. The game learns from some of its past mistakes, but issues like unbalanced map design, a cluttered user interface, and some technical instabilities keep Black Ops 7 from reaching the level of the franchise's best.
