Angry Video Game Nerd: The Video Game 8-Bit is a remarkable accomplishment as a genuine NES platformer, especially with a physical release for original hardware on the horizon. The platforming is tight and responsive, packed with clever nods to Mega Man and Sunsoft NES classics. Each level ties neatly into some of the Nerd’s most memorable episodes, while the FMV segments and energetic soundtrack give the game plenty of personality. In trying to make the experience more accessible, however, the assist features break the balance, softening what is otherwise solid. Apart from that it is a very decent homage to the best the NES era had to offer.

Angry Video Game Nerd 8-bit is another great game and excellent homage to classic games from the NES era. The challenge is hard, but fair, level design is really fun, tight controls, but the game is quite short and there’s no real replay value, but the core gameplay is addictive; I kept returning to play it. This game will definitely fall in my top 10 of the year and I can easily see myself replaying it. Highly recommended.
The Angry Video Game Nerd 8-Bit isn't just a fun retro throwback to days gone by; it is a legitimate modern-day NES game that captures what made these games special. Drawing heavy inspiration from Mega Man, it successfully blends the series' classic gameplay mechanics with stages and ideas from other NES titles, and the end result is a game all platforming fans can enjoy. While you do not need to be a fan of AVGN to enjoy this title, it is packed full of fan service that will put a smile on your face, and the live-action skits are nice to see as well. This game is in fact an Angry Video Game Nerd episode in disguise; it's just you are the one playing it this time, and not the Nerd. Either way, if you are a fan of retro platformers, and especially the classic Mega Man series, then this is a game you will not want to miss out on.

Angry Video Game Nerd 8-Bit is part tough-but-fair NES game, part brand new (and highly nostalgic) AVGN episode. Even if it’s painfully short (again, it’s actually a game that can be played on a console from 1985), and even if some deaths felt cheap, I kept playing it with a dumb smile on my face all the time. More than just cheap nostalgia for one of the most famous and important internet celebrities of all time, this is purely and simply a pretty solid 2D action platformer.
