Anima Gate of Memories: I&II Remaster is an interesting title, but repetitive combat holds it back from being anything special.
Pair of action RPGs now revamped for a new console generation
Anima: Gate of Memories I&II is an attempt to revive a franchise that wasn’t well received at the time, but became some sort of cult classic, likely thanks to its fanbase. I have to say that I understand why both of these outcomes occurred, as it is a game with a very interesting world and story, charismatic characters and strong art direction and soundtrack. However, it still suffers from clunky controls, overwhelming bosses and unbalanced gameplay at times, despite this being a re-release.
Anima Gate of Memories: I&II Remaster is a collection that deserves credit for re-releasing two unique titles in the most solid and consistent way possible. It does not attempt to modernize the formula or reinvent it, but aims to provide a more stable experience that is less prone to the original technical issues. The two narrative perspectives contained in a single package emerge today with greater clarity and continuity, representing the true added value of this new edition. It is a recommended collection for those who have never played the series, and a useful opportunity for those who wanted to replay it without the limitations of the past.

Anima Gate of Memories: I&II Remaster brings the graphics a lot more up to date compared to the 2018 release." The character models, backgrounds, and lighting have all been improved, and outdoor locations, such as the Great Plains, appear bright and appealing.
Anima: Gate of Memories I & II Remaster delivered an improved version with superior lighting, textures, and new difficulty settings. However, it still falls short due to the lack of Portuguese subtitles and the limiting Ki bar, which hinders the overall combat flow.

Anima: Gate of Memories is decent, and I did enjoy my time with it overall. But the repetitive combat and clunky mechanics hold it back from being truly fun. I do think though that most people who decide to pick it up will enjoy it especially for the current price. The story is interesting, the world is varied, the graphics overhaul is well done, but with the remaster you aren’t getting much new content just a collection with a face lift.
Anima Gate of Memories I&II Remaster is a solid remaster of a game that may have flown under the radar for many when it was originally released in 2016 and 2018. It delivers on what it sets out to do, featuring decent gameplay, an excellent soundtrack, strong art direction, and an interesting level design — though there’s still room for improvement.
