Darwin’s Paradox! is an interesting and somewhat unconventional platformer that offers both an original protagonist and atmosphere, though at the same time it runs into the limitations of its own design.

Darwin’s Paradox! is a charming platforming adventure with a stunning visual identity and a surprisingly expressive protagonist. While its mechanics lack deeper development and the experience feels too short, its creativity and personality make it easy to enjoy.

Despite everything, in today’s industry where the platformer genre is often treated as a blank slate to simply build upon, games like this still hold a valuable place thanks to their straightforward approach. However, the comfort that comes with being ‘old-school’ should not make studios forget that game design itself needs to evolve just as much as production values do. In this regard, Darwin’s Paradox! unfortunately fails to go beyond offering lazy nostalgia, wasting much of its high potential.

Darwin's Paradox! is a top-notch platformer on PS5. ZDT Studio delivers a debut title with a charming lead, great level design, and a presentation the quality of an animated movie. The expressive storytelling immediately hooks you in, and Darwin himself is impossible not to root for.

Darwin’s Paradox can be a lot of fun, but how much you enjoy it depends on how much you enjoy stealth games where dangerous enemies chase you.

Darwin’s Paradox! delivers a visually enchanting experience and an innovative story that restores Konami’s creative spirit, thanks to the touch of ZDT Studio. The game excels at presenting its unique “octopus” mechanics, but it stumbles technically due to frame rate instability and control issues.

Darwin’s Paradox! is a fresh and fun game, with a story full of humor and surprises; perhaps its short length may turn away those looking for a longer experience. Highly recommended.

Darwin’s Paradox! is the perfect example of a game driven by an excellent idea but held back by its execution. Its art direction, soundtrack, and concept make it a memorable experience in many ways. Unfortunately, its imprecise controls, inconsistent AI, and short playtime prevent it from truly leaving a lasting impression. It leaves you feeling a bit unsatisfied. Nevertheless, I’m convinced this is just the first step for this young studio, which clearly demonstrates with this title that it’s not lacking in talent or ideas.

Darwin's Paradox! is a very solid and distinctive adventure, standing out above all for its protagonist and how well it develops its central idea. Despite some inconsistencies in the stealth mechanics and a few somewhat uneven difficulty spikes, the experience remains consistently entertaining and charming. Its rather tight length and a few less polished moments prevent it from reaching its full potential, but they don't detract from what it offers. It's a game that's far more enjoyable than its minor issues might suggest.

It’s not a flawless experience, but it does what it set out to do successfully, for the most part. The characters were cute (even when they were trying to murder me), the world was full of wonder and secrets, and being able to camouflage myself in front of an entire alien factory practicing Tai Chi is something I didn’t know was missing in my life until I did it. I wish the game had been a little bit longer, only because I was having so much fun exploring the strange environment, but at about five to six hours to beat (without searching for all of the hidden collectibles), Darwin’s Paradox! is absolutely worth diving into.

Its lack of dialogue also allows the soundtrack to stick out, as it punctuates the action and quieter moments with its loud trumpets and sneaky basslines, respectively, while also weaving in some slick theremin notes that highlight the game’s obsession with aliens. When combined with the colorful art direction, it’s clear that these various elements work together harmoniously to create one cohesive audiovisual package.

I've never played as an octopus before, and Darwin's Paradox makes a compelling case for the concept. A cute protagonist, gorgeous environments, and a Pixar-like presentation that brings back the feeling of watching an animated movie as a kid, the difference being that the antagonist isn't a character, but the systems of the game.

Darwin's Paradox! is a great game and I highly recommend playing it. If you're one of those players who are a little tired of very long titles or those with convoluted mechanics and stories, this game is for you! Furthermore, because it's a light and quick experience to finish, it provides that good feeling of finally completing another item on your list.

Darwin’s Paradox! shows that independent companies can bring new ideas to well-known genres. It looks great, works well, and is fun to play, so it's a good addition to the Nintendo Switch 2 library. Don't miss Darwin's Journey if you want a platformer that focuses on characters, telling stories about the surroundings, and creative movement.

It's undeniable that Darwin's Paradox is funny and offers an interesting dynamic between land and water levels, even with sections that can be extremely frustrating, to the point of demotivating the player. However, those on PlayStation 5 should perhaps wait for a definitive solution to the crashing problem, which can even cause some kind of damage to the console.

Darwin’s Paradox! doesn’t always get the basics right, but it makes up for it with creativity and character. It’s rough in places, yet hard to put down once it gets going. A flawed but enjoyable game.

The debut game from French developer ZDT Games hides a surprisingly difficult and even frustrating combination of puzzle-solving and platforming behind its colorful and vibrant art style. I loved Darwin's Paradox, I hated Darwin's Paradox!
