Tōkon puts four Marvel fighters in your hands, then makes figuring out what they can do together the most fun part.

With a plethora of features, immaculate art style & sounds, huge love & respect of the source material from Arc System Works, and a solid fighting game engine that caters to both beginners and expert, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is a triumph. Even the most jaded and stubborn of tag fighters will admit that there's a lot of "sauce" and depth in the devs' take on Marvel superheroes.

Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is a very good fighting game that, despite a few missteps in the narrative, delivers phenomenal and dynamic gameplay, a diverse cast of characters, and a wide variety of content that will keep fans of the genre and Marvel fans entertained for hours on end. If fighting games are your thing, Tōkon is a must-buy.

Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls delivers a matchup as spectacular as it is ambitious, bringing together the Marvel universe and Arc System Works' distinct identity. Its four-character team system introduces original mechanics and remarkable depth, while its artistic direction is simply brilliant. However, performance and fluidity issues on the PC version prevent all that potential from fully unfolding. For this reason, the score is provisional, and we will return later to check if this promising fighting game manage to unlock its full power.

Marvel Tōkon Fighting Souls is a super fun, very accessible and utterly gorgeous fighter with enough content to keep both the hardcore and casual fighting game player busy. As revered as the Marvel vs Capcom series is, Arc System Works have done a fantastic job in taking the Marvel Tag Fighter mantle from Capcom.

At this stage, I’m quite impressed. The spectacle is there, the movement is excellent, the team mechanics have genuine potential and the accessibility is considerably better than the intimidating 4v4 structure initially suggests. If Arc System Works can iron out the mechanical quirks and prove that the deeper systems have enough variety to sustain a serious competitive scene, Marvel Tōkon could become something considerably more interesting than another licensed fighter with pretty particle effects.
