Star Fox overall is a fantastic remake of one of the best games of all time. Its gameplay loop remains highly replayable, it’s a great entry for those who’ve never played while the additional challenge modes are sure to keep veterans busy as well. While it could use a bit more on its multiplayer and revisiting aquas may not be fun, those are small complaints to say the least.
The Star Fox remake gives Nintendo’s furry ace a slick new coat of paint, but you’ll be (barrel) rolling credits before you’ve even had time to settle into the cockpit.
It occurs to me that if Star Fox Zero never happened, I’d probably be a lot kinder to this remake. A lot of Star Fox 2026 is what I want from a proper remake of Star Fox 64, but it’s still Star Fox 64. Again. Some of the rough edges are sanded down, but they’re still there. Even $50 is pushing it for what it has to offer. To anyone at Nintendo or Valen Studios who would listen, I beg of you. No more remakes. Take what you have here and build on it with a new installment. Let this franchise finally step out of Star Fox 64‘s shadow again. Or, if you must do another remake, do Star Fox 2. That game needs a remake even more than Star Fox 64 did. Or bury the franchise for good. At this point, I don’t care which.
I have a huge amount of admiration for Star Fox; the graphics and music are truly stunning and worthy of accolades. However, this is not a movie, and whilst some missions are good fun to blast through, the repetition eventually starts to feel draining. Ultimately, this is a game I will barrel roll into now and then for a quick shoot ’em up, rather than chill out with for a long, dedicated gaming session.
Star Fox (2026) absolutely proves that the Lylat System is still worth saving, whether you’re completely new to the franchise or revisiting it after one of its many past iterations. It pairs incredibly fun flight gameplay with modern visuals to create a more than worthwhile experience. While each individual run is short, the branching paths and other differences between each campaign provide plenty of replayability and ensure that the path to Venom feels different each time. On top of that, it comes packed with additional challenges and modes to play. It isn’t entirely flawless, of course. Teammates that act more like flying targets at times and how the alternate vehicles feel to control are downsides. But they remain fairly minor issues in the grand scheme of things.
Star Fox is the glorious return of a childhood classic. With gameplay that is just as smooth as ever, a new Challenge Mode to take on, and an expanded cinematic story, it is exactly the game fans of the series have been waiting for. While a few minor issues hold it back, it is still a must-play, and the perfect entry point for newcomers. Welcome back Star Fox Team! We missed you!

Star Fox on the Nintendo Switch 2 is a remake with two faces. For players who have never played the original, this is undoubtedly the best way to get acquainted with one of Nintendo's most unique franchises. Despite its age, the gameplay still feels surprisingly fresh, the arcade setup works excellently, and the audiovisual presentation is among the best the Switch 2 currently has to offer. For fans, the story is slightly different. The remake is so faithful to the original that there are hardly any surprises to be found. Everything that once made Star Fox 64 great is still present, but virtually nothing goes a step further. Nevertheless, it remains a high-quality Nintendo production that shows why Star Fox 64 has been considered a classic for nearly thirty years. Not an instant classic in itself, but certainly the definitive version of a timeless classic.

Star Fox is the worthy remake of Lylat Wars, the most popular game in the franchise featuring the adventures of McCloud and its crew. A campaign that will look short if you only plan to make one run, but will find interest in its replayability. Different branches to explore other alternative planets and script sequences, abounding challenges that bring challenge and that will feed the most complete veterans, and content in cooperation or 4v4 that will boost the dynamics of the game. Nintendo has just delivered, irreproachably, an example to revive a classic in its catalog

While I’m not sure if Star Fox will convince people who aren’t into on-rails shooters to dip their toes into it, for fans of Star Fox 64, this is simply a mandatory purchase. It’s easily one of the most perfectly executed remakes ever and a great game in its own right.
Star Fox for Nintendo Switch 2 is a meticulously crafted, spectacular, and immensely enjoyable remake that perfectly understands what made the Nintendo 64 classic so special. It doesn't reinvent the franchise, nor does it turn its story or multiplayer into its biggest selling points, but it makes up for it with magnificent gameplay, an outstanding audiovisual presentation, and that rare ability to feel exactly like the idealized memory many of us kept of the original.

Star Fox brings Fox McCloud and the Arwing back in a short arcade shooter that makes more sense the more you replay it. The campaign is brief, but medals, hidden exits, and better stage outcomes gave me a reason to keep improving instead of stopping at the credits. The biggest issue is that Star Fox sticks very close to Star Fox 64. Joy-Con 2 mouse controls are interesting, but I kept going back to traditional controls because the Arwing felt better there. Star Fox fans who still enjoy short replayable missions should have the easiest time with it, and newcomers just need to know the campaign is short by design.
Even though we’re retreading familiar territory here, Star Fox on the Switch 2 is a welcome retelling of a remake of an SNES classic. It’s basically a gorgeous cinematic facelift for a thirty-year-old game you’ve likely beaten four times already on different consoles. Fortunately, that means it is still insanely fun to barrel roll through space with your crew. The flip side, of course, is that the campaign is still short, even if you go back to chase down high scores and medals. I am just happy, though, to see Fox McCloud back in the cockpit of his own franchise instead of just taking up a slot on the Smash Bros. roster.

Starfox is faithful remake of the classic that also brings new modes and mechanics to the experience that will no doubt excite fans. Not only does it push replayability more than ever before, but it is crammed with unlockables, enjoyable multiplayer modes, and hidden challenges.
For fans who have been playing this game for decades now, the fresh coat of paint and reinvigorated multiplayer more than justifies the price of admission here.
