After a curious wait, Elden Ring finally arrives on the Nintendo Switch 2 through its Tarnished Edition. Containing all the content from the base game, the expansive Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, and some new classes and armor, this is a vast, epic, and challenging game that deserves to be played (or replayed) by everyone who appreciates FromSoftware’s titles — especially when we’re talking about a portable version with surprisingly strong technical performance.

The memorable Elden Ring from the acclaimed FromSoftware has arrived on the Nintendo Switch 2 with a highly satisfying level of quality. This cross-gen game is one of the most captivating open-world experiences we’ve ever played, and the Switch 2 port lets you fully enjoy its charms.

Elden Ring, winner of the 2022 Game of the Year award, remains one of the best Souls games and one of the greatest titles FromSoftware has ever created. The Tarnished Edition proves this once again on Nintendo Switch 2, retaining the game’s quality in almost every aspect while offering a complete experience that combines the original game, the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, and additional new content, all in a version you can now take and play wherever you go. Despite a few shortcomings, particularly in terms of technical performance, longer loading times, and occasional responsiveness issues, these problems do little to diminish the enjoyment, visual quality, and artistic direction that have made Elden Ring one of the most beloved games among players looking for a challenge. Most importantly, this massive adventure can now be experienced anywhere thanks to the Nintendo Switch 2’s handheld mode.

Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition is an impressive Switch 2 port that pushes beyond the hardware’s limitations. However, its relatively low frame rate can be a constant burden for this type of game, while quirks like returning to the menu after sleep mode make it less than ideal for portable play.

If you also skipped Elden Ring during the previous generation and were waiting for the Switch 2 version to launch, the Tarnished Edition is an easy recommendation for me to make. It is one of the best RPGs I have ever played, and even arriving a few years after the original release, it remains an experience worth discovering for anyone.

And now that it is on the Switch 2, it feels like the developers have accomplished a minor miracle. Elden Ring Tarnished Edition is extremely playable on the portable console, and even with some obvious graphical concessions, it hardly diminishes the overall experience, as it runs at an almost stable 30 FPS with some negligible drops here and there.

Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition is an excellent port of an all-time great game. It may not be the definitive technical version of Elden Ring, but it is remarkably close to the original experience and being able to take the Lands Between anywhere makes it an easy recommendation.

Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition brings one of gaming's most remarkable experiences to Nintendo Switch 2 with a version worthy of the original masterpiece. Beautiful, immersive, challenging, and surprisingly stable, the game retains all the magic of the Lands Between both on TV and in handheld mode. An excellent entry point for newcomers and an unforgettable journey for anyone willing to become the next Elden Lord.
