Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition Reviews
Words can hardly capture the wonders within Elden Ring. Apart from a few cheap boss battles, this is one of the best action RPGs ever made. Tarnished Edition is as complete as it gets and contains roughly three games' worth of content. Why can't all games be crafted with this much vision and boldness? The lunacy of it looking and running as well as it does on Nintendo Switch 2 makes this an absolute must-have for the console.
ELDEN RING Tarnished Edition combines one of the best games ever made with perhaps the best DLC ever made and it performs much better than you'd assume on Switch 2 so it's a definite must-play for anyone who has yet to traverse the Lands Between. đź’Ť
ELDEN RING Tarnished Edition remains difficult, mysterious, enormous, and occasionally frustrating, but those qualities are still part of what makes it special. You are given a world that does not always explain itself, enemies that can punish mistakes, and a progression system that offers you countless ways to respond.
Elden Ring on Nintendo Switch 2 has finally convinced me I need to play it properly.
Elden Ring is definetly the most stressful game I have ever played. Yet, in a twisted way, I really enjoyed the adventure. However, learning a completely new combat style proved too demanding for me, and as a result, I couldn't enjoy the game the way it deserved.

For me, Elden Ring represents the pinnacle of the genre regarding the kind of experience I look for in this type of game—though I wouldn't necessarily claim this is the best way to play it. The Switch 2 version has the advantage of bringing that experience to a console where the blend of exploration, freedom, and combat works exceptionally well; however, frame rate fluctuations prevent this version from reaching the same level of excellence as the game itself.

Is the Elden Ring Tarnished Edition the ultimate version of Elden Ring? Probably not, due to a slight but noticeable graphical downgrade and a frame rate that sometimes struggles to keep up (stick to portable mode). Nevertheless, it’s the most comprehensive version in terms of content and, above all, it lets you get thrashed on the tube on your way to work. What more could you ask for?

Nintendo Switch 2 may not deliver the most technically spectacular version, but it does offer a surprisingly solid port that preserves its world, freedom, and that unique knack for making you always want to discover what lies just a bit further. If this is your first step into the Lands Between, welcome aboard; and if you've already traversed them before, the chance to return with Shadow of the Erdtree included makes for a powerful excuse to get lost all over again.

Elden Ring Tarnished Edition brings one of the best games of the generation to Nintendo’s newest console with surprising grace.
Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition is a port full of compromises for a game that itself makes hardly any compromises. The 30 fps takes some getting used to, frame drops crop up from time to time, and anyone with a PS5, Xbox Series X or powerful gaming PC will undoubtedly find a technically superior way to explore The Lands Between. But there’s a great deal to be said for it. This is still Elden Ring: the 2022 Game of the Year, with a vast world, fantastic combat, unforgettable bosses and an almost ridiculous amount of freedom. What’s more, you get Shadow of the Erdtree thrown in, making this a particularly comprehensive package. And above all: you can now simply take that entire package with you. If the Nintendo Switch 2 is your only console, don’t let the technical caveats put you off. This remains absolutely one of the most impressive games you can play on the system and is well worth your time. Not the best version of Elden Ring, but a surprisingly good one nonetheless.

Elden Ring Tarnished Edition brings the complete Lands Between experience to Switch 2 with solid performance and portable convenience. The price and a few technical compromises hurt, but the core game remains exceptional.

This was always going to be a tricky review, and it was mostly going to be about how it ports across to the Switch 2. I had no complaints about the performance and of course Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition itself was voted Game of the Year for a reason. To that end, if you haven’t played the original and you like adventure games that you can sink hours of your time into, Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition is one of those games that you MUST play in your lifetime. Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition has to be seen to be believed, and at times it took my breath away.
Ultimately, Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition contains everything from the previous iterations but with slightly less shiny graphics.
Elden Ring Tarnished Edition sure ain’t the definitive technical version of FromSoftware’s masterpiece. The 30fps target, occasional open-world performance dips and reduced visual fidelity are real compromises, and players with access to stronger hardware will get a cleaner experience elsewhere. But holy Golden Dung, this port works way better than I dared to hope for.
Elden Ring Tarnished Edition brings one of the best games of the last 10 years, along with one of the best expansion packs of the last 10 years, to Nintendo Switch 2, and it does so almost flawlessly.

Containing all the content from the base game, the expansive Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, and some new classes and armor, this is a vast, epic, and challenging game that deserves to be played (or replayed) by everyone who appreciates FromSoftware’s titles — especially when we’re talking about a portable version with surprisingly strong technical performance.
