Welcome to Elderfield is a game worthy of the Lovecraftian title. It makes the mythos feel like a dark fairytale that you can take part in, and the weirdness of the whole experience is brilliant. Every little task feels rewarding because you get information, items, or access to resources. I put hours into this game, and I still don't know how I'm supposed to feel about it. If you're like me and enjoy both horror games and cozy games, then you definitely need to give it a try.
If you can stomach it, Welcome to Elderfield is an endearing escape from the normal world we’re all forever trapped in. I couldn’t get out of there fast enough, but who knows? Maybe you, like the other denizens, will never leave once you arrive.
Welcome to Elderfield from developer Chris Cote and publisher Kwalee is a horror-filled cozy game that offers plenty of questing content, a well-designed farming and crafting system, and features just enough turn-based combat to deliver a cornucopia of fun. While it has a few minor, correctable issues, it’s an enjoyable overall gameplay experience.

Welcome to Elderfield is best understood as a horror RPG wearing the clothes of a farming game. If you approach it expecting only a peaceful place to plant crops and decorate a farm, the darker systems may surprise you. But if a bit of danger and mystery thrown into your routine sounds appealing, the combination of cozy activities mixed with unsettling discoveries gives Welcome to Elderfield an identity of its own.
Welcome to Elderfield surprised me as a delightfully spooky, terror-filled take on the cozy farming sim genre. Depicting small-town life as full of unexplainable phenomena and horrors that become the mundane, Welcome to Elderfield easily shines as one of the most unique titles in its genre, while still delivering the familiar mechanics and gameplay loops that fans have come to expect.
Welcome to Elderfield, which blends cozy farming with dice-driven RPG combat and Lovecraftian dread into an addictive, uneven mix; thin on romance, but endlessly worth exploring.
Welcome to Elderfield is an addictive (and unsettling) experience that successfully marries the satisfaction of farming with the tension of cosmic horror. It’s a ton of fun to play – especially with its satisfying blend of farming and turn-based combat – whilst the eerie (and sometimes grotesque) world really helps give it a unique vibe that really, REALLY appealed to me. If you’re looking for a release in the farming sim genre that does something genuinely different and like the idea of marrying a skeleton, Welcome to Elderfield is a must-play.
Welcome to Elderfield, where horror fans and farming sim enthusiasts will feel right at home. A wide range of activities and friendly locals await you, along with terrifying monsters and dangerous places that few dare to venture into.

People have called Welcome to Elderfield the spiritual successor to Graveyard Keeper, but I think it deserves the accolade of being called the spiritual dark successor to Stardew Valley. Stardew Valley is considered the gold standard for narrative-driven farming sims, and in my opinion, Welcome to Elderfield has shown that it has what it takes to stand alongside the greats. It also feels perfectly placed for autumn and Halloween. This is the kind of dark cosy game that could easily pull in horror RPG fans, cosy gamers and people who simply want something a little stranger from their farming sim. Given the follower numbers before release and the hype already gathering around it in the cosy community, I would be very surprised if a bunch of streamers and content creators do not flock to this game.
Welcome to Elderfield’s greatest strength is the way it blends the ordinary with the unsettling. Its farming, strange characters, eerie atmosphere, and mystery work well together, even if the language barrier and RNG-heavy combat can get in the way.

All in all, Welcome to Elderfield is an impressive Gesamtkunstwerk that draws you in with its aesthetic of slimy tentacles, but keeps you hooked; especially because of its gameplay.
