ICEY Reviews
Battling your way through screens of mechanical enemies to reach the final boss won't take very much time at all, but exploring the compact yet detailed world around you is enjoyable. Hidden are some thought-provoking snippets of narrative that touch on the hardships of developing games, for example, and the clever delivery of its storytelling is, at times, ingenious. However, the simplistic approach to battle and a confusing and convoluted story plot could prove bothersome for some who are looking for something a little more in-depth. ICEY does, however, succeed in providing quick, tight blasts of fun that's sure to please fans of the genre that are looking for something a little different.
If you’re looking for something challenging and a little different to lose yourself in for a few hours, ICEY is super cool. Puns absolutely intended.
ICEY is a nice little adventure that blends in some great combat with a fourth wall breaking adventure and excellent visuals.
ICEY is a biting commentary on the entire medium of games. Beneath a solid 2D action game lies one of the most interesting titles I've had the pleasure of playing. It's a game that isn't afraid to take risks, and managed to constantly surprise me despite pulling off the ridiculous several times prior. Everyone who considers themselves a “gamer,” should play ICEY, and then sit down to think about its message.
ICEY is not the worst game with a good soundtrack, fast battles and odd storytelling, which suffers from monotony, stupid plot and many minor problems. If you're interested in the genre, then you can try it, but only at a reduced price.

This Switch port is non-offensive, but several of the coding and error window effects were definitely intended for PC. Still, ICEY is fine. If you are seeking a short, functional, and fundamentally different experience, then you will find a lot to love. If you want a traditional story, a long adventure, or lots of action-packed gameplay, then search elsewhere.
ICEY brings to the Nintendo Switch a fun and engaging mix of platforms and RPG along with a very compelling combat system. As if that was not enough, the interaction between the player and the narrator is nothing short of amazing and despite Icey's rather short lifespan, the bickering with the narration and its incessant instructions more than makes up for the game's length.

ICEY IS a neat idea, that admittedly, probably won't be for everyone. What does beat at the heart of ICEY, is a perfectly acceptable action game with fluid visuals, style and energy. All of which contains an interesting twist on the experience.
ICEY is a fun 2D side-scroller with fast fluid gameplay. The story isn't the most revolutionary, but the narrator makes it interesting. Disobeying the narrator and the resulting encounters are funny, clever, and easily worth the time. If nothing else, the 4th wall breaks make ICEY what it is.
ICEY tries to combine a fourth wall breaking narrative to 2D action game play with mixed results. It has some good moments, but for the most part it feels like a lesser version of both elements.
Icey is a fun action packed little indie game that isn’t afraid to get weird.
Icey delivers a fantastic 2D brawler with satisfying combos and hard-hitting combat. It's multi-branching paths give you more story with the meta-narrative, but doesn't quite flesh out all of the parts into a cohesive whole. But, at the end of the day, we play beat'em ups to do just that.
Icey is a good action game, showing great visuals and and intuitive yet entertaining gameplay. Homewever, its repetitive nature can push the player's patience to its limit.

ICEY is a really solid action game with an appreciable effort to do something unique with its storytelling.
ICEY has a lot going for it; the combat is fun, the story and writing smart, plus it has some great designs and animations. It's definitely an enjoyable little addition to the libraries of Switch players, but its flaws are evident to see. If only it was a little longer, or had a bit more of a replayability factor, and if only the voice acting was better... Still, more than just a good game, and well worth checking out.
If you like meta-commentary in your video games, ICEY might be right up your alley, but I found the narration to be overdone, overlong, and overly aggressive. I appreciate ICEY's attempt to differentiate itself but…not like this. Not like this.
ICEY is a fun 2D action hack and slash that feels great, looks great and is fun yo play. The overall experience is even more entertaining with how you interact with the narrator who will get angry if you don't follow the arrows and end up reaching a spot where you shouldn't be. Be sure to check it out on Nintendo Switch!
Brilliant art design, lovely script, and great production values make ICEY one of the best indie titles I have ever reviewed.
If you call yourself a fan of fast action games than ICEY is a must play for you. This game wasn't on my radar at all but it is one of the best indie games of 2017 that I've played. Fast, responsive combat mixed with a beautifully drawn world and a narrator who actually speaks to what the player is doing all combine to form a true gem.
Icey is unique, fast-paced and full of surprises, but it's insane difficulty level and some strange level design issues ruins the fun.
