DiRT 4 is a very good game, that much is certain. Retaining the fantastic control of cars from DiRT Rally, albeit made somewhat simpler, it offers almost endless rallying with a procedurally generated track system and a number of changing online challenges. Not without its flaws, including an oversimplified gamer control scheme and anemic career mode, it's still a worthy entry of the core DiRT franchise.

Dirt 4's casual-friendly additions subdue its handling model, but it's a great racer regardless – especially for those that struggle to stay on the track in Dirt Rally.

DiRT 4 has all the modes you expect to be present in a numbered DiRT game, but somewhere along the way, Codemasters didn’t give DiRT 4 a personality befitting for the series. Gone is the Instagram-filtered look and Mountain Dew spewing words from famous extreme sports celebrities of DiRT 2, and also gone are the slick and splashy menu transitions and career navigation of DiRT 3. Where DiRT 4 falls a bit short in presentation, it makes it up where it counts, in gameplay. DiRT 4 is without a doubt the best-feeling and playing game of the series.

DiRT 4 is a fantastic addition to the long history of this series. Whether you're a serious sim racer or an arcade hoon, you will find plenty to satisfy your rallying needs.

Rally simulation at it's finest with adjustable difficulty settings coupled with some fine dirt vehicles and diverse race courses. Off-road motorsport bliss.

Dirt Rally was easily the best rally game we had in years, but sadly Dirt 4 is a bit of a let down. The graphics may be stunningly beautiful, but the gameplay isn't nearly as fun as in Dirt Rally. A good rally game, but far from perfect.

DiRT 4 is arguably the most complete rally title on consoles to-date.

There are so many modes, races, and details hidden in this game that it will keep you busy for a long time. Once you start to master the modes, or if for some reason you find things are too easy, you can tune the difficulty and increase the challenge for the game. There is a lot to love in the game, and I couldn't put it down after playing for hours. It was always “just one more race”, until it was two in the morning. I'm forcing myself to put it down! If you like racing games, then you have to play DiRT 4!

But at the end of the day, DiRT 4 is left as very good racer that is let down by the odd visual and audio issue. If you’re a gaming petrol head who is prepared to look beyond those though – and can consider turning off the repetition of your Spotter – then you’ll most definitely like what you find.

DiRT 4 is a game of two halves, literally. Each half is excellent, but I still feel something is missing.

Ultimately, it makes for a new Dirt chapter that doesn't share the ethos of its numbered predecessors, and it doesn't feel right for the game to be called Dirt 4. That's not to say the game isn't good; fans of Dirt Rally, Project Cars, and other simulation titles will find enough to enjoy here. But if you're getting into Dirt 4 to relive the joys of the earlier hits, this is the wrong game.

Overly simple and, sadly, boring game with minimum amount of game modes. In comparison with DiRT Rally, Codemasters took a step back. DiRT 4 is not a simulator, but is sure as hell trying to look like it.

DiRT 4 will appeal to almost any type of racer. The sheer amount of options guarantees long term play, and though more locales will be nice, the variety of vehicles, modes, and conditions more than makes up for it.

Overall, Dirt 4 delivers unforgettable moments for the fans and racing enthusiasts, the experience that the game gives you is like you're actually driving the car itself. Winning is also satisfying, not because you're fast, but you're skilled. You also need to be smart on how to drive your car in different situations, and you must always listen to your co-driver. Dirt Rally was a success but Dirt 4 gives you more what Dirt Rally is lacking. If you're looking for a racing game that gives you challenges and test your skills, then Dirt 4 is your game.

DiRT 4 succeeds at taking the series to another new level which almost makes this one of the favourite ones I've played in the series. The gameplay mechanics work extremely well and I had no issues with the DualShock controller while I controlled these powerful off-road vehicles. Furthermore, there's a plethora of modes to play, heaps of cars and lots of different areas that make this title some excellent value for money. Lastly, it's not just as a rally game as the developers have added lots of fun modes and vehicles to help expand the gameplay. Then you have the daily and weekly challenges which just expand the scope of the game, including the ability of playing it in either two modes, gamer or simulation!

In DiRT 4, Codemasters not only managed to improve what was already great at DiRT Rally, but the addition of new game modes like Joyride and Landrush brought a more casual feeling to the game, along with the possibility of choosing between two different drive modes, for casual players and simulation lovers. The cars and locations pleases all tastes, and the track creation is something revolutionary for rally games. Thus, DiRT 4 is easily one of the best and more complete racing games ever made.

DiRT 4 is a better rally game than DiRT Rally because it has improved career progression, better multiplayer, randomized rally routes, and some casual-friendly options. The procedurally generated rally stages are a game changer and help to provide lasting value.

Dirt 4 has one of the best career modes you'll see in the racing genre, at times closer to the do-whatever-you-want elements of Forza Horizon than the franchised motorsports games it seems outwardly more similar to. If you're a real stickler for speed and technical challenge you'll probably enjoy the 'proper' rally cars more than I did, but the beauty of it is that you can progress your career however the hell you want, which is delightful.

DiRT 4 is built for a very specific audience, so if you're looking for a casual arcade type experience, you're in the wrong place. But if you are open to learning the ins and outs of the dirt rally world or are a fan of it already, there's no reason why y
