What Bastion set out to do years ago still holds up well today, although the unique storytelling approach, in many ways, does more harm than good.

It’s great to finally see Supergiant Games bring some of their great work over to a Nintendo platform and Bastion easily ranks among the best. From its eye-catching presentation to the mysterious story to the challenging but satisfying combat Bastion is an emotionally fascinating journey from start to finish and one well worth venturing.

Bastion on the Nintendo Switch brings back a successful RPG that is full of marvelous details, including a brilliant art style, a very involving narration technique and some very accessible gameplay mechanics. Continuing with the practice of bringing major, successful games to the Nintendo Switch, Bastion is worthy of all the attention it gets.

Bastion holds up remarkably well after all of these years, and in many ways, Bastion is a masterclass in game design.

Bastion is a thrilling action RPG. Supergiant Games’ fans will love it, but it’s definitely for those who want a story with incredible music, fascinating characters and incredible gameplay.

Bastion is one of the strongest first efforts I’ve seen from an indie studio, easily standing out even amongst triple-A titles. While not perfect, this game has so many bright spots that it will definitely become an instant classic to whomever plays it. If you can tolerate the simplistic combat and linear gameplay, Bastion is definitely one to recommend for any fan looking for an intriguing story, noteworthy characters, and some of the best aesthetics and style around.

Bastion lands the Nintendo Switch to remind us, once again, why it's one of the most recognisable indie titles. But for the player who's already enjoyed the world of Kaolandia, that's nothing new. However, if you haven't yet embarked on the KID's mission to rebuild Bastion, this adaptation is highly recommended. The use of the Joy-Con's HD vibration, plus the ability to enjoy the game in desktop or portable mode, is a good incentive to go for the hybrid version.

Supergiant first game finally arrives to Nintendo Switch. Even if you already played it in different platforms, Bastion keeps its charm thanks to a beautiful art direction, powerful music and voice acting.

While people with access to other systems may well have played Bastion before since it's been around for a number of years, it still is absolutely a great title that doesn't feel at all dated on the Switch...

Simply put, Bastion is an indie masterwork. It fits right at home on the Nintendo Switch, being exactly the type of game suitable for mobile play. The gameplay’s simplistic nature makes it an easy game to hop in and out of on the go. And the optional challenges highlight the game’s thrilling and addictive combat, making it easy to come back to over and over again. My only regret is that I didn’t acknowledge this game sooner. Any gripes I might have towards Bastion seem nitpicky at this point. Seven years ago, Supergiant Games delivered a solid action RPG title. Now, it gets another chance to bask in the sun thanks to the Nintendo Switch.

Bastion is an unforgettable and enjoyable piece of software that stands as a strong example of how games can also be perceived as art. A charismatic narrator, beautiful visuals, intense action gameplay and heavy character customization make this a fairytale that you'll want to dive into again and again, and while the isometric view sometimes gets in the way of the gameplay, the other aspects of Bastion more than make up for this slight misstep. We'd highly recommend you give Bastion a try if you haven't played it elsewhere already; though this Switch port brings nothing new to the table, Bastion is a memorable modern classic that is an absolute must-play.

Bastion is a steal at $14.99 and wonderful to play on the TV or in handheld mode. The fun factor is really high and there’s a lot of value here since it’s not an overly short title. If you missed out on the original release, now’s your chance to fix that oversight!

The Switch release plays just as smoothly as any modern game. No frame drops are present and it works beautifully in handheld mode. While there is no new content with this release, it still feels right at home on the Switch. If you've played Bastion in the past or if you've missed out on the previous releases, I wholeheartedly recommend Bastion for anyone looking for a fantastic action RPG.

Bastion's dialogue talks vaguely about the world and the characters, giving off a strong sense of world building, but if you start to dig and think too hard about it, the lack of depth does begin to show. The gameplay is charming and colourful but the mechanics themselves begin to feel a bit like a chore in their implementation.

To conclude, if you have never played Bastion before then this is a must buy. It's beautiful, sad and a great journey with some fun Diablo type gameplay and neat surprises along the way. If you've played Bastion and purchased it on the 360 then it's free for you on the Xbox One. I would recommend downloading it again and entering back into this wonderful atmospheric world.

I now know why people fell in love with Bastion. It's a perfectly proportioned, well packaged, beautiful escape into a foreign world with compelling music, art, and narration. There's no real added benefits to playing it on the Xbox One besides a few more achievements, but then again, it doesn't really need any upgrades. It's fairly perfect as it stands.

The combat might never feel as clever as the visuals and narration but this is still an engrossing and distinctive action role-player.

When I think about my brief time with Bastion, I can only remember positives. Sure, falling off the maps was a frequent endeavor, but that was always my fault and sloppiness. Yes, sometimes aiming weapons became a chore, but often it was, again, my fault. The controls were pretty tight, and the areas were brief enough where the autosave feature (which I believe only activated once you landed back in the Bastion) worked well. The soundtrack was fine, but the narration by, essentially, the only speaking character (though Zia speaks at the end) was phenomenal. I highly recommend trying this indie title because the narrative alone is worth the enjoyable toil. With plenty of gameplay, a myriad choice in town features, and a solid voice performance by the awesome narrator, Bastion is worthy of the risk.

Bastion was excellent in 2011, and it's excellent now. Everything in Bastion - the narrative, the audio and visual presentation, and the gameplay - works together to create a cohesive experience, a feat few games can manage. Those who have played the game before won't find anything new here, but this release is for the dedicated fans, and for those who haven't experienced the game 'till now. If you're in the later camp, I envy you. You get the opportunity to play Bastion for the first time. As for the rest of us, well, it's just another opportunity to experience an excellent game again. Celondia, we're coming home.
