Golf Story Reviews
While the Nintendo Switch has some absolutely wonderful games releasing in its first year, Golf Story is right up there with the best of them
Fun, diversified, generous and also technical, Golf Story synthesizes two great gameplays to deliver a love story between golf and classic RPGs. With great dialogues and a hardy direction, the game offers a decent amount of courses, even though it may lack some real challenge in the end.

Just like Stardew Valley filled a void in the hearts of those missing Harvest Moon, Golf Story does what Nintendon't by delivering a highly competent take on the Mario Golf RPG formula – an offshoot of a franchise that has gone missing for well over a decade. Golf Story likely wouldn't have existed without looking to gaming's past for inspiration but that hardly makes it a knockoff. It excels in every way you'd hope a game in this niche but fascinating genre would.
Fun, quaint and a bit buggy, Golf Story is a lovely but flawed distraction.
Golf Story is another must play Switch exclusive for more than just golf or RPG fans.
Who would have thought that an RPG adventure based around the slow-paced sport of golf would end up being such a fun one? While Golf Story may not be the best in class in neither the sport nor role-playing genre, the game manages to combine the two into a delightfully unique and charming experience. Another winner for the Switch.
Even though Golf Story isn't quite what I expected it would be, it is an absolute delight. It's more than just a golf game with RPG mechanics, but it's not quite a full RPG with golf mechanics either. It lies in a sweet spot in the middle, where people who care about one but not the other can still get into it.
Though it can be argued that the game doesn’t provide anything overly new in its implementation of the game, even those who aren’t fans of the sport will find lots of fun throughout.
Golf Story is held back by a number of mechanics, some of which are not very fleshed out or enjoyable, the occasional glitch, and lots of quests which require skill and control of the game's often shaky mechanics. The story is entertaining enough, but the real charm of this game is the hilarity of its characters characters and dialogue. This really is a must have for any fan of golf games, but as an RPG fan, I thought this indie title only came in at par.
Its easy to understand, and not-so-difficult to master golf mechanics ensure that even players who don't particularly enjoy golf, like myself, will still find it enjoyable in this game.
The dry Aussi-ness of Golf Story wins through. I still can’t quite tell if the developers secretly hate golf and the whole thing is a big piss take. Either way, it comes across as well-meaning and tongue-in-cheek. I even chuckled a few times at the charming innocence of this world where everyone loves golf and all the world’s problems can be solved with a handful of balls and a good swing. Wouldn’t it be nice?
Golf Story is overall a fun adventure, but some difficulties make this game just miss a hole in one.
Sidebar Game's charming golf RPG hits it out of the park.
Even if Golf Story does not manage to make it big, it doesn't fall flat on its face either. It may lack variety and be too long with a plot that doesn't quite captivate but Golf Story still gets it right when it comes to content, challenges, secrets and minigames, while its multiplayer is a pleasant surprise. It may not hit a birdie but it reaches a par.

Buy Golf Story. Seriously! You will not regret one cent. I have fallen in love with the design, world and story. If you want one of the best indie games of the year for your Nintendo Switch, Golf Story is a hole in one!
With really no downsides, Golf Story is exactly what the Switch needs right now—a smart, lovable, and addicting game that fits the console mission perfectly.
Golf Story is well worth the addition to every Switch owner's library. Its zany cast, easy-to-grasp gameplay, and wonderful art design make for an incredibly rewarding experience.
Golf Story is full of character and charm. There's heaps of humour as well as things to do - and the golf isn't half bad either.
Truth to be told, It's not like that you need to buy a Nintendo Switch ASAP and play this game, but if you happen to own one, you should buy it ASAP.
