Taken on its own merits, Xenoblade 2 is a fun JRPG with a ton of content, customization and gameplay that any genre fan will enjoy.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 tries its hardest to match the grandest of grand RPGs out there on the market, attempting to become Nintendo's own Final Fantasy. In doing so, though, whilst still wonderfully vast in its scale, and gripping in how things play out for the most part, it has lost its way slightly, becoming bogged down by an overly complex pre-battle system, marred by fights that mostly feel too hands-off/automated, and some terrible character visuals and voice work. There is indeed a lot to love about this, yet so much that makes you yearn for something more.
I enjoyed my time with Xenoblade Chronicles 2 a great deal, but it saddens me that I only enjoyed it a great deal. I honestly can't believe that a studio of Monolith's size and prestige would somehow miss that its narrative is rife with tonal inconsistencies, and leave me wondering whether I was playing something serious.
Another huge masterpiece that comes to Nintendo Switch after just nine months since its debut. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is the JRPG you were waiting for, a great follow up in the Monolith Soft saga.

It sets a precedent for JRPGs on the Switch that I doubt will be topped, unless of course Monolith Soft somehow manages to pump out a Xenoblade Chronicles X 2 before the end of the generation.
Monolith Soft creates a solid sequel in the anticipated Xenoblade Chronicles 2, which brings a more streamlined RPG experience to audiences, but the odd design elements do limit it from being a classic.
In spite of its many flaws, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is a fun game with lots of replayability, but a series of mistakes in game design and quests that are not always pointful has made one of the most promising titles of Nintendo Switch a mediocre game.

Monolith Soft has done an awesome job portraying the world of Alrest and its story. Every chapter feels like it could have its own game, complete with their own twists and turns.
If I were to rank the Xenoblade games then I would say Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is a step below the original yet a more rewarding experience than Xenoblade Chronicles X.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is everything I wanted out of an upgrade, with sharper visuals, 60 FPS performance, and one of the original game's biggest frustrations finally fixed. More than anything, it gave me an excuse to return to Alrest and experience one of my favorite games of all time in the best way possible. Nearly nine years later, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 remains an unforgettable RPG that stands among the very best games I have ever played.

When I think of Xenoblade Chronicles 2, the word I keep coming back to is 'big'. It is big in almost all permutations of the word. The environments? Vast. The story? Epic. The combat? Startlingly deep. The accents? Huge, and from all over the place. Fortunately for the most part, bigger does mean better, giving you a game to happily spend tens of hours in. The Switch 2 update may not provide too many new things, but it crucially makes this game look and run so much better; it’s enough reason for newcomers to try it out and veterans to pick it up again all these years later.
Perhaps that’s why the Switch 2 Edition works so well: it doesn’t need to reinvent Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Monolith Soft already did that in 2017. This time, it simply gives that experiment the hardware it deserved. The Nintendo Switch 2 Edition makes Alrest sharper, smoother, and considerably easier on the eyes, while Merc Assault, MOMO, the new Pyra and Mythra styles, and the Field Skill improvement provide returning players with meaningful reasons to explore it all over again. Is it a completely new experience? No, and it doesn’t need to be. Because Xenoblade Chronicles 2 was already doing something more important back in 2017. It was proving that a sequel doesn’t have to follow the path laid out by its predecessor. Sometimes you need to build a completely different road, and sometimes, almost nine years later, you just need better hardware to appreciate where that road took you.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 on Nintendo Switch 2 fixes all the visual issues of the original: it delivers crisp resolution, smooth performance, Amiibo support, and colossal combat. A JRPG masterpiece that is absolutely essential.

I can say with certainty that the Switch 2 version of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 does the game more justice than the Switch 1 version. All the technical upgrades simply do what they’re supposed to do. For new players, this is the version they should buy, and for those who already played the game back in 2017, the upgrade can only mean a deeper love for the franchise. Just make sure you’ve got enough storage space. I know I’ll definitely be returning to the world of Alrest and wallowing a bit more in that nostalgic blanket.

The Switch 2 Edition of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is, by all accounts, the best version currently available of one of the most beloved JRPGs in Nintendo’s entire catalog. The leap in resolution, stability, and overall image quality is enormous, finally allowing players to enjoy Alrest with visuals that live up to its stunning settings, while the new content makes the adventure significantly more engaging and accessible for new players. Considering that the upgrade is available for just 10 euros, it’s hard not to see this as an extremely good deal, especially for those who already own the game; and if you’ve never played it before, this is probably your best chance to do so.

Despite some lingering limitations—such as the gacha-based system for obtaining Blades—Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is easily the best way to play one of the Nintendo Switch's most important RPGs. For those who have never explored this world, this is the perfect opportunity to embark on the journey. For longtime fans, it is an excellent excuse to return to one of the most captivating universes ever created by Monolith Soft.

The controls are simple enough for a first-timer, the visuals are on-point and fluid for the most part, and it still carries that big, compelling story that had me hooked the first time around. Merc Assault and MOMO aren’t just cosmetic sprinkles — they’re proper additions that give the whole package a reason to exist beyond a resolution bump.
