Okami is one of the finest games to come out of Japan in the last decade, and Okami HD is absolutely the best way to experience this epic adventure. Its re-release is rather timely too, given Japanese game publishers are currently preoccupied with creating games that will appeal in the West. Okami, in contrast, represents a pure, resolutely Japanese vision, and is all the more appealing for it.

It is actually a little sad to play Okami HD again after so many years. Well, playing Okami HD is a joyous experience, but it is sad to see that after six years it is still one of the best examples of its genre. Okami HD is fantastic, and hopefully this re-release will inspire a new generation of game designers to play, enjoy and then scoff, "Ha, I bet I could do better".

The definitive version of one of the most beautiful video games ever created, not to mention the best Zelda game that never was.

Okami HD has only one real flaw: some of you will have already played one of the two editions already published and will decide not to indulge in a new ride as Amaterasu. While the introduction of the Move turns out to be a rather limited and mostly skippable upgrade, high definition has allowed the already splendid artistic direction to touch unimaginable peaks. The visual spectacle that will form in your LCD or plasma TV is in fact difficult to describe.

Okami HD ,blending classic elements of its kind belonging to others fresher and more innovative, undoubtedly offers a successful and fully functional mix. The frame of the whole is obviously the technical and above all stylistic sector of the game, which raise the title to levels never seen before. Narrowing such a work in the circle of "video games" would be somewhat reductive, since Okami HD turns out to be a 360° experience, which fully involves the player in all senses, between fascinating scenarios of feudal Japan, oriental melodies and a touch of mystity. Ultimately, we fully recommend the use of the title to all fans of the genre and not.

Okami HD is the definitive version of Okami. It has the best graphics, fewest bugs, and most responsive controls if you are using a DualShock. It runs perfectly in widescreen 1080p without a hitch. At a budget price of $19.99, there's little reason not to pick up this game, especially if you haven't played the original. It's hard to conceive of any better version of Okami, except for perhaps a fourth release that utilizes the tablet of the Wii U for drawing purposes, and since Nintendo doesn't seem to be working on that, Okami HD for the PS3 is where it's at!

If you have played Okami before, or if you are interested in it now that the remake is here, there is no doubt in my mind, you really need to pick this game up. I usually don’t say this, but this is more of an experience than it is a game. The story is charming, the visuals are beautiful, and the presentation makes me smile from ear to ear. This is one of the better HD upgrades and well worth the time and money. I can not suggest Okami enough.

Okami HD is a timeless classic, full of charm, subtle ingenuity, and beauty, remade in stunning HD, yet sadly it's embellished with some graphical issues. It's a must-have for first-time buyers, but offers little improvement for those who have already enjoyed all 40+ hours of the game on other platforms.

In short, why haven't you already purchased Okami HD? At $20, Okami HD is one of the greatest gaming values of 2012, representing the greatest and largest Zelda-like adventure to not come from Nintendo. It's been updated beautifully and features strong, complementary use of the Move technology. Even at six years of age, the game is better than many modern contemporaries. Hopefully, the HD update finally brings Capcom the success that the game has long deserved.

You could just plow through the story and ignore a lot of the side stuff and be completely happy. In fact, you'll probably get a good 20 plus hours out of that. However, if you choose to feed all the animals, collect all the treasures, complete the bestiary and find all the beads you'll find it very rewarding without being too tedious.

You will fall in love with Okami HD whether you play it for the first time (I envy you, in this case) or if you do it after giving a spin to any of the versions that were released in the past. As a remaster, it's poor, but as an Xbox One product, it's priceless.

Although the new remastered does not wedge for audacity, Okami remains a masterpiece of stainless beauty that few approach but from which no one can ever get away from again. A milestone in the history of gaming, a compelling adventure, visually stunning and full of unique, one-of-a-kind elements. If you are not discouraged by the amount of dialogue, Okami will give you a colorful story made up of epic clashes, prophecies and legends. Be bewitched by its eastern world wrapped in cherry blossoms and help Amaterasu bring the Sun back. You won't regret it. Highly recommended edition for all fans, and absolutely mandatory for anyone who has never played it until now.

Okami, now on its seventh platform, remains unaffected by the ravages of time. The convergence of Japanese folklore and a Sumi-e aesthetic over the blueprint of The Legend of Zelda created a benign opus that, eleven years later, remains unchallenged and unequaled by any scale of competition. Okami, even with its pronounced vulnerabilities, is a singular creation and merits constant preservation. [OpenCritic note: Eric Layman separately reviewed the PC (9), PS4 (9), and Switch (8) versions. Their scores have been averaged.]

Having the chance to once again return to Nippon, I can wholeheartedly say that (after eleven years) Okami HD is still a masterpiece, standing the test of time through two generational console jumps. Put frankly, it is a work of art and a prime example of the ingenuity, creativity, and brilliance key development teams brought to their work on the PlayStation 2. Here's hoping that Okami HD receives the sequel it rightfully deserves.

Okami is a joy to play and delivers not just a great adventure but along the way actually boosts your sense of well-being as you bring life to the plants, people, and flowers of the world. This is a thoroughbred classic game that deserves to be experienced by as wide an audience as possible; if you missed it before then this new HD version is the best way to experience such an engaging game – don't miss it this time.

Okami HD is still the same must-play videogame as in 2006, but this remaster has lost the impact that the PS3 version had in 2012.
