Crossing Souls is a "feel good game" for anyone who grew up during the eighties.

With its debut project, Fourattic has serviceably captured and recreated a period, with nostalgia and passion bursting through every seam.

Devolver Digital's Crossing Souls isn't afraid to wear its love for the 80's on its sleeve, but thankfully, there's more to the story on top of it. While it isn't without its missteps, using interesting and unique gameplay elements, diverse locations, and well-rounded characters, the arcade adventure game will give both modern and retro gamers something to enjoy.

The game wears its influences so brazenly that the entire experience ends up feeling listless, predictable, and trite.

Crossing Souls is a fun, nostalgic walk through the 80s, but it lacks its own personality.

Crossing Souls is heavy on nostalgia, but somewhat shallow when it comes to gameplay. The result is a lovingly crafted ode to an era that's neither bodacious nor bogus.

Come for the wonderful presentation, stay for the baddie boppin'. Crossing Souls nails its 1980s aesthetic, no question there — the 'long-lost-cartoon' game is strong here, right down to the artfully placed VHS artifacts in the animated cutscenes playing out across a sweeping adolescent adventure. Nostalgia aside, the story and beat-em-up gameplay please and surprise in a few key ways, but come with a few too many paper cuts to prevent Crossing Souls from breaking through to that next level.

Crossing Souls is another great title from Devolver Digital. An awesome 80's science fiction setting with great characters, writing, and electronic music. If you love old science fiction movies you're going to love Crossing Souls.

Crossing Souls is an interesting title. Absolutely in love with the pop culture of the 1980s, the title wears this love on its sleeve, and the charm of that is undeniable. Unfortunately, while the writing, art, music, and references are great, the gameplay peters out rather quickly. After a strong first couple of hours, full of interesting and layered puzzles, the last half of the title quickly devolves into no more than a collection of platforming and melee combat scenarios with little else to keep you going. The end result is game that's fun and entertaining despite its gameplay, not because of it.

Despite relying on the well-established and fashionable 80's pop culture, Crossing Souls is literally good for the soul, and there's much more beyond its simple nostalgic approach. Behind the levity of a by-the-book teen movie, there's a heartfelt and intimate game, extremely polished and deep, with a convincing art direction and a solid gameplay.

Crossing Souls is a game with an exciting story, recognizable references to the 80's pop culture and the gameplay variety, which includes elements of exploration, classic point'n'click adventures, beat'em'up, puzzles and platformers.

Crossing Souls is a delightfully nostalgic romp, balancing original content and nods to the past. Featuring diverse gameplay levels which touch on most every aspect of 80's retro gaming, enough challenge to be rewarding, and a surprisingly touching story, this is a must have for anyone who grew up shouting "Goonies never say die!"

That it ultimately collapses into a string of unpleasant platforming sequences that the core design simply can't sustain means I grew to loathe Crossing Souls, once it entirely abandoned its redeeming features for everything it couldn't get right.

Crossing Souls it's a beautiful pixel art adventure that inspires by and jokes around all the 80s iconography you can imagine, from movies to games. It shines the most through its Pixel Art, its soundtrack and the animated sequences... but at the same time, the gameplay mechanics remains always very simple and has some lows in the central chapters.
