BattleTech Reviews
Harebrained Schemes' BattleTech expertly captures the attrition, desperation, and destruction that is so present in the materials and literature of the larger BattleTech property. The RPG elements regarding your team are strong, the tactical gameplay is excellent, and the 'Mechs are spectacular.
Featuring an engaging story, addictive gameplay, and beautiful art design, Battletech is a standout title in the turn-based strategy genre. However, the level of randomness can sometimes feel unfair.
The world of Battletech drew me into this game, and the combat, while not well explained, kept me trying over and over again to tackle missions that kept pushing back on my less-than-amazing brute force tactics. A must play for any tactical or strategic minded player.
Look past the dull presentation for a deeply satisfying war game
An authentic experience that brings a tabletop game to an interactive medium, Battletech is a purist's dream come true.
BattleTech offers an epic experience of commanding a space war while you can also immerse into the fantastic story and music. But compared with top SLGs like XCOM 2, it has too many flaws, such as stupid tutorials, stiff actions, and slow loading speed, which can not be easily ignored.

It's like a Katy Perry song, this one. You think you're immune from its charms and then all of a sudden you're humming it in the shower and singing while you drive. Battletech is so unforgiving and challenging that it really tickles the part of my brain that demands to win.
If you can ignore the possibility of rerolling missions and accept what you’re given BattleTech is definitely a success on par with other tactical games in the genre. You get satisfaction in your victories, frustration in your failures, and sweet relief when you barely manage to escape alive. It brings back the magic and wonder of playing XCOM combined with the technicality of games such as EU4.
Superb combat, a lengthy single player campaign and most of the old Mechwarrior charm makes for an excellent turn-based experience. The surrounding story and meta is sludgy but adequate. Multiplayer works and is a blast but quickly loses its appeal without any progression or tracking. Could have been so much more, but what's here is a great turn-based game.
Monitoring everything from your debits and credits to your hit points and heat levels, BattleTech is brutal, fragile, smart, and struggling a little under its own weight. It has more heart than you're expecting. Couldn't stop playing.
The tactical combat in BattleTech is excellent. Building a roster of gigantic killing machines and managing sundries offers a long-lasting gameplay loop. With a sharper narrative and more polish around the edges, the turn-based 'Mech-killing experience would have been unstoppable.
This is a flawed title, but BattleTech's nuanced tactical depth and engaging system of progression will ultimately sustain it over the long haul.
BattleTech skillfully combines MechWarrior and X-COM, creating a title that will keep you occupied for hundreds of hours in singleplayer and multiplayer both. Its only flaw are the overly simple RPG elements.

Battletech is a good effort from the people at Harebrained Schemes, and the passion poured into this project is clearly visible from many little details. Still, the game is in need of some more polish, and the AI particularly desperately needs a patch or two. Buy it in any case if you love the original license, or everything mech - related as a whole.

If you are willing to overcome a few technical hiccups, and if you are an unrepentant sci-fi nerd, Battletech can be your new favorite game.
Definitely a deep and enjoyable strategy game, from the way you kit your mechs out to the way you approach each fight, everything is up to you. The battles can feel a little slow paced at times and the game still has a few bugs that can cause crashes as well. An enjoyable game but one that still needs a few more patches to stop the issues.
Nothing less than a masterpiece and the best Battletech game fans could hope for. Slow loading times and a lack of use for scout roles don't hamper the experience.
