Forgotton Anne is a great strorytelling game, even if the gameplay lacks some challenge.

Forgotton Anne is a fantastic narrative journey propelled by an exceptional heroine. The Enforcer is strong, capable and shrouded in mystery; a case you slowly uncover while discovering who she is and where she came from.

Its puzzles and platforming may not be anything to shout about, but they aren't Forgotton Anne's focus. The way it develops a detailed world, full of unique and interesting characters, while keeping the central story compelling and surprising, is remarkable, especially in such a short period of time.

Forgotten Anne is an anime brought to life, where you play the role of the heroine through a Studio Ghibli-esque world full of mystery and wonder. The puzzles will scratch that itch in your brain, but the visuals and soundtrack will blow your mind.

I was expecting a little more from Forgotton Anne, particularly after how the trailer portrayed the game. Even with that, there's a sense of beauty in it all. The puzzles, characters, and design will still manage to stir emotion in Anne's experience despite the visible blemishes throughout your journey.

I think that anybody who wouldn't enjoy this game knows who they are. While I wouldn't put Forgotton Anne into the category of an essential for gamers of all types, I would easily recommend playing this game to basically anybody who would give it even a passing interest. It is the type of game that punches way above its weight, and it managed to surprise me. It's available today on PC, Playstation 4, and Xbox One, so if you're still reading this, give it a look.

A nice surprise, Forgotton Anne is an endearing anime-style platformer that doesn't deserve to go to landfill.

When the weakest part of a game is the gameplay often it is enough to see the game instantly hitting the bargain bins or at least strongly criticised. Forgotton Anne manages to break that logic by featuring a compelling, deep and questioning storyline and jaw-dropping presentation that makes the mediocre puzzles worth muddling through. Taking around seven hours to complete the game isn't super long and a few hours of that time can be attributed to journeying across the 2D screen. If you appreciate the art style this doesn't feel like wasted time, instead time for indulging and enjoying the world. A world that is the perfect mixture of the believable and bizarre. Forgotton Anne might not be for everyone but those drawn in by the art and the promise of a story won't be disappointed.

A beautifully animated story, held back only by mediocre puzzles and questionable design choices.

Unbelievably fun adventure game with beautiful 2D graphics. Charming atmosphere and interesting main character translate into hours of great narrative.

Forgotton Anne tells a wonderful story about the importance of memories, the feelings and some modern problems of our society. Artistically wonderful, the game is a bit too guided and offers simple puzzles.

Forgotton Anne is good at telling a story, and creating a new world filled with magical things. The hand-painted art style and the background music are remarkable, and the puzzle part has some strengths too. However, the handling feel of this game is not satisfactory enough, which kind of reminds me the original version of Prince of Persia.

Forgotton Anne is a wholly unique and evocative experience. While it delivers on the selling point of the beautiful hand-drawn anime art style, it backs it up with fantastic story and engaging gameplay. This is truly something special we have here, something that must be explored by anyone who can get their hands on the game.

Throughline Games really ought to be applauded; Forgotton Anne is something rather special. If this is the calibre of the studio's first game, I really can't wait to see what else it comes up with.

Forgotton Anne beautifully weaves 2D animation into a compelling adventure, that seems like fun but becomes something of a controller hassle from time to time

'Forgotton Anne' has a little bit of each of cartoons, platformers, interactive visual novels and an overused mechanic but a whole lot of originality in a refreshing title.

Despite its title, Forgotton Anne is far from forgettable. Its story is deep, its characters are nuanced, and its journey is emotional and powerful. Unfortunately, its stiff platforming and uninspired puzzles hold it back from being a must-play. For fans of adventure games, Forgotton Anne is a surprising gem that'll provide plenty of memorable moments over the course of its 7- to 8-hour run. For those looking for a more cohesive melding of story and gameplay, however, there are simply better options available.

In terms of gameplay, there are certainly titles that offer greater variety and complexity, but the beautiful visuals, fantastic soundtrack, compelling story and likable characters easily elevate Forgotton Anne to the level of being a truly excellent game.
