Valkyria Chronicles 4 Reviews
For better or worse, Valkyria Chronicles 4 is extremely similar to the first game, and it's just unfortunate that extends to some of the original's faults. If you dislike the series for one reason or another, then Valkyria Chronicles 4 won't change your mind. If you already love the series or have never given it a try yet, then Valkyria Chronicles 4 is well worth adding to your collection.
With Valkyria Chronicles 4, the strategy role-playing hit from Japan has now finally arrived in Europe! With a charming anime style, the story of Claude Wallace and Squad 6 knows how to convince the player, without losing it unique gameplay experience. The content of the game is enormous, exciting battles are inevitable and a dramatic story is guaranteed!

Valkyria Chronicles 4 take the series back to its roots for the better. The new E Squad may use the very same twists and stories as the first episode, but the game itself stills delivers a solid war experience somewhere between the tactical genre and the TPS. Unfortunately, only those able to accept its naive manga tone may enjoy this light experience : indeed, the endless and sometimes pointless conversations are a real nightmare.

I have consistently advocated good character development and a likable cast and this is all present in Valkyria Chronicles 4. The strategic combat is more of the same but the new cast offers a refreshing change of pace that can overcome the lack of innovation in the gameplay department.
Valkyria Chronicles 4 is the best entry in the series since the original game released over ten years ago. Regardless of the difficulty chosen (you can switch between easy and normal at any time), missions take quite some time to complete (you may be playing a single mission for close to an hour), which helps you feel rewarded for completing each one. Successful missions provide you with experience points to level up and further upgrade your squad's equipment.
Although it's essentially an extension of the first installment (right down to the presentation and mechanics), Valkyria Chronicles 4 is still an absolute must-have for VC fans, as well as SRPG enthusiasts who don't mind a little light-hearted character development.
Valkyria Chronicles finally comes back to major gaming platforms, where it belongs. Despite some minor defects, the management of tactics and strategies in and out the battlefield offers a great experience. SEGA bring us a huge amount of high-quality content, but the tone of the narrative might not be in line with part of the western audience.

Varied strategy in watercolor-anime style with human history and resonating anti-war message.

Valkyria Chronicles 4 has an entertaining and beautiful core unfortunately covered by a flawed shell. You have to break through that shell repeatedly if you want to get to the really good bits and the bits are fantastic, sure, but the in-between moments are incredibly annoying.
With Valkyria Chronicles 4, Sega have succeeded in creating a true sequel to the original. The game offers strong, polished gameplay, a good amount of customisation and some likeable characters, but a few clunky choices and pacing problems do hold it back from fulfilling its potential.
With its incredibly likable cast of characters, polished mechanics, and grander story, this entry represents the best the series has ever been.
Ten years have passed since the release of the first title, but the mechanics and the unique mix of action, visual novel and turn-based strategy of the Valkyria Chronicles franchise remain enjoyable and addicting, making this fourth episode probably the best up to now.

Yes, yes and once again yes! Exactly such games the world needs. Valkyria Chronicles 4 has gone back to its origins, skilfully implemented and left the battle victorious with waving flags. The story of the title is incredibly exciting and you always want to know more. The fact that you have to select the individual story sections with pictures interrupts the flow of the story a bit. I was bothered by the fact that if you are in the middle of the story, the story is finished and the next picture has to be clicked. But here it should be noted that this is criticism on the highest level. Gameplay and the combat system are intuitive. You are always responsible for what happens on the battlefield. It's up to you where the unit is sent to and whether it survives. Only the evaluation after a battle I found awkwardly designed. There is simply too much emphasis on the speed of the conclusion. Because of the diversity of Valkyria Chronicles 4 I never got bored. Once I didn't feel like the story, which rarely happened, I continued the troop stories. If I wanted to learn more about my game world, I went to the accommodations and devoted myself to studies. Were there any problems with the level or the money? No problem, off to a skirmish. It was just fun to play such a wonderful game with unique characters. Anyone who is familiar with JRPG's tactics or just wants to start with such a genre will have fun here. Valkyria Chronicles 4 impresses with a breathtaking story, lovable and unique characters, enormous tactical behaviour and variety. Join Claude Wallace and Squad E on their digital campaign against the imperialist alliance!

A long-awaited console return of the strategy franchise that's very worth the wait
Sure there are certainly bigger and more sophisticated looking military-themed games vying for your attention this year, but there’s not anything quite that looks or plays like Valkyria Chronicles 4.
Valkyria Chronicles 4 is a triumphant return to form for the beloved strategy series, and it's amazing to see it finally pack a punch outside of Japan once again.
A good successor of the original Valkyria Chronicles, with some new stuff. It's a pity the game is so stucked in its past.

Valkyria Chronicles 4 is a confident game that doesn't always earn its bravado. It is beautiful, thrilling, and paradoxically fractured. But if you're able to endure the clumsier scenarios, you'll find a rousing war story with plenty of challenge.
